Joe Glenn wasn't exactly a perennial success in FCS. He was head coach for 3 years and won 1 national championship. Montana had had 15 or so years of success prior to him. Craig Bohl's been at NDSt. for 10 years.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View PostWhat was the name of the coach from Montana (or was it Montana State) that was perennially successful in FCS but only lasted a few seasons at Wyoming? Is there any reason to think that this coach will be any different? Is there any reason to think that Wyoming will ever be able to overcome the built-in limitations to their program of demographics and geography? Even if the coach is able to overcome those limitations for a season or two, the limitations will win out in the end as the coach eventually leaves for greener pastures (e.g. Joe Tiller).
Utah State has the exact same limitations as Wyo although the demographics have been improving for Utah State over the past few years with 27K enrollment compared to 12K for Wyo. Neither school can do anything about their geography.
He was at Wyoming for 5 years and did improve Wyoming significantly over his predecessor. His biggest issue was he was never able to parlay his winning seasons into a better coaching gig.

Athlon ranks "must see" bowls from 1-35. The HUNG is ranked 11.

11. Fight Hunger – BYU (8-4) vs. Washington (8-4) – Dec. 27 at 9:30 p.m. ET
The Fight Hunger Bowl should be one of the better pre-New Year’s Day matchups this season. Washington finally got over the 7-6 mark with a solid 8-4 record in 2013, but instead of building on this year's success in 2014, coach Steve Sarkisian left for USC. The Huskies were able to pull Chris Petersen away from Boise State, which is easily one of the top hires of the BCS era. Regardless of the coaching situation, Washington will be a tough opponent for BYU. The Huskies ranked second in the Pac-12 in total offense (514.3 ypg), and running back Bishop Sankey is expected to be a postseason All-American (147.9 ypg). The Cougars went 2-4 against BCS competition this season, but Bronco Mendenhall’s defense ranks 21st nationally in points allowed (21.3), while quarterback Taysom Hill is a dangerous dual-threat option. BYU has been vulnerable in the secondary, and it’s critical for linebacker Kyle Van Noy to get pressure on Washington quarterback Keith Price. - See more at: http://athlonsports.com/college-foot....3GqLJu3N.dpufFitter. I'm thinking of heading down to Philly for Army/Navy on Saturday because I've never been to the game and it's kind of on my list as a CFB fan. Anyone been that can say if it is worth it? I'm about a two hour bus ride or 90 minute train ride away so if I'm ever going to do the game now would be the time.

Wyoming will never be a football power but remember this is the Mountain West conference - every school appears to have geographical limitations. And compared to N. Dakota St., Wyoming should be easier to recruit. Utah St.'s former coach is now at Wisconsin so it's not unreasonable to think Craig Bohl might be able to parlay the Wyoming job into something better should he choose. If he stays at Wyoming for a decade like he did at N. Dakota St., I think he will make Wyoming more than respectable in the MW.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View PostWhat was the name of the coach from Montana (or was it Montana State) that was perennially successful in FCS but only lasted a few seasons at Wyoming? Word is that Harsin withdrew his name from consideration. Its down to Koetter and Tedford. Footballscoop says its going to be Dirk Koetter, they are just working out the details.Originally posted by Surfah View PostSo who replaces Petersen at Boise? Apparently Harsin has a buyout of $1 million. Arkansas State seems to be a great stepping stone school right now. Hugh Freeze, Gus Malzahn, Brian Harsin?

Adios, Mack. You seemed like a genuinely good guy. May you have a happy retirement. We will always remember 2005."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

That's the word on the street.Originally posted by USUC View PostAnd Saban the next coach of Texas?
I liked this article:
http://austin.culturemap.com/news/sp...d-it-be-saban/
Other coaches rumored to be courted by Team Bevo are Mike Gundy of Oklahoma State, who I’m pretty certain is over 40 and not yet 50 (Saban is 62) and Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, who recently signed a big contract extension, but those don’t mean anything because they always have an escape clause. If Earl Campbell has his way (which, as the only monument with his own golf cart, he doesn’t), former Texas All-American safety Jerry Gray, now making about 800 large as Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator, will become the Horns’ first African-American head football coach.
But it’ll be Saban, I think. Basing this hunch on little more than the weekend I spent in Tuscaloosa a few years back. T-loose has all the bad things about a college town and gets nothing cool out of being a liberal outpost in a beet-red state. If Alabama Shakes are on tour, there goes the music scene.
The Sabans have been married since he was 20 and his wife was 19. It’ll be 42 years on Dec. 18. They’ve never stayed any place too long, in the past 15 years going from Michigan State to LSU to the Miami Dolphins (where Saban had his only losing season as coach, in 2006) to Alabama. It’s time for another change of scenery. And Saban has said that the only place he’d go after Alabama was Texas."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
