It depends on one's viewpoint. I guess I see the restrictions on the HC/BYU culture as a reason that would make the environmant in Provo less stressful. I guess I lump BYU in with the service academies that have similar recruiting obstacles. Depending on BYU's schedule, I'm OK with a 9-3 or 10-2 schedule as long as they are playing good football with the talent they have. But I could see the stress of having to deal with the HC/BYU culture and still having to compete with name schools that don't have this hurdle.

On the other hand, it would be stressful to have few recruiting barriers in Boulder and still not be competitive. Fans and alumni would ask why Bronco can't recruit better talent - why he's losing recruits to Utah, ASU, Nebraska, etc.

I can see both sides. I've always thought BYU does well with the talent it is able to sign.

I agree with all this and think the from the BOT all the way down to the coach, they should start telling the fans, this is who we are.

Stop with the Top 10, compete at the elite level, etc. stuff. If you tell people the truth about what you can and will deliver, most people will lower their expectations and still support the program emotionally and by watching games on BYUtv.

How much is the stress heightened by knowing that the last three HC's were all fired?

Also - I don't know that I would say expectations are low in Boulder. You don't keep firing coaches if you have low expectations.

That said - I tend to think that Bronco would be a better hire than either of the previous two. I think his experience bringing BYU back from the Crowton ashes would have to be very useful.

I also think it would be interesting to see how his approach to recruiting and dealing with fans/boosters would change from BYU to Boulder.

And I agree...to a point...assuming that the status quo remains in place and I have no reason to think anything will change. Set expectations accordingly.

But I really wish BYU would fundamentally change its honor code. All these recruiting restrictions with the HC/BYU culture are self imposed. So my hope in vain is that BYU adapts an HC like any other university and gets rid of the dress and behavorial portions of its HC. Admit the best students and the best athletes who are eligible. Stop trying to admit the "best Mormons who qualify". Sorry for stepping on the soapbox.

So - if Bronco really did interview with Colorado. And if reports of Bronco pulling scholarship offers for athletes who have scheduled visits to other schools are true...

I think it would be hilarious for Holmoe to tell Bronco that as he is obviously not committed to BYU, he's going to have to go back to a year to year contract.

I'm pretty sure if Bronco were to interview elsewhere he would have to get clearance from Holmoe beforehand.

I have given up on that happening during my lifetime. There are enough very conservative mormons, that I think the outcry should it happen would be deafening. One of the great appeals of BYU is the quality of babysitting parents get through their kids rebellious college years.

I have die hard friends who are Ute fans who are more than pleased their kids go to BYU and are still Ute fans when it comes to sports like their parents. These folks couldn't care less if BYU had or didn't have an athletic program.

As for BYU being a 12-0 team this year that's pure baloney. BYU is nowhere near a BCS caliber team at the moment.
Ask the fans calling for Bronco's head. They believe BYU should be 12-0 with Lark as QB.

I will put it this way. If Bronco were a head coach at New Mexico and turned that program around like Bronco has BYU. Everyone would put Bronco as a #1 prospect to be a BYU head coach. Grass is not always greener!
( FYI I most likely wrote that incoherently and will be properly corrected forthwith. Thanks)

Yea, that turning New Mexico around and having a lifetime job worked out well for Rocky Long.

You underestimate the desire fans have to be in the top at other schools. Especially the schools that have the following and financial support BYU has.

                        Meh.

There's a possibility that BYU wins more games this year with a QB change, especially around the Utah/Boise games, but I haven't heard much from the 12-0 crowd. That just sounds silly to me.

Rocky got tired of the crap he was getting from Lobo fans, so he told them where they could cram their genitals. Looks like he was right.

Yea, just pointing out if Bronco turned the Lobo program around like he did here, he wouldn't be beloved by the fans their either.

How about those Georgia fans?? How do you run off a guy who won the NC two years ago.

I think Bronco's world when it comes to fan complaints is pretty easy going compared to other places.

Yea, that's it. There was a Georgia coach, really superb person, in trouble a couple of years ago with fans. Did he get canned or was he the coach this year?
