Maybe we should assign an adult to help teach people here how to interact with others.

Where are we going to find an adult?

            • Does "if you were Bronco" mean that

              (a) I am Bronco in the same sense that Bronco is Bronco and therefore content to be the quasi-GA that Bronco has morphed into in the last few years

              or

              (b) that I am self-aware and capable of deciding to reclaim my identity and be the hungry football-loving defensive technician that I used to be?

If it's the latter, then I shake myself out of my zoobified stupor, start telling kids that football isn't the "fifth most important thing", that there isn't a simple linear hierarchy of importance, but excellence and commitment in their efforts is what God wants from them, sets the example for kids they'll have in the future, honors their parents and grandparents, and prepares them for lifetimes of meaningful achievement - hence football is not "less" important but part of the fabric of student-athletes' lives and woven around their families and futures.

And then I'd go out and recruit the horses to have another defense like this one, get the contact info of every male teenage relative of Ziggy Ansah, make some hard choices about what needs to be done to get the offense in order - and stay at BYU for another five years to achieve the goals I'd set out there.

              But that probably won't happen.

                  • I wonder if I was a LDS recruit and told Bronco, I believe in the church standards, but like somone who wants to be a lawyer they would choose the school that gave them the best chance to get a great job as a lawyer.

I want to be a pro football player. Being honest with you, do you think your staff can give me the best shot at achieving my my goal after college as the other schools that have offered me?

Bad wording again I know, but I wonder what his response would be. Would I get a pitch on the more important things than football or would he say, hell yea we csn prepare you for your goal?

Of course you would get the latter, and the other benefits would be added on top of that. There is no reason to suspect that Bronco is a moron.

Hopefully, Bronco would mention something about how BYU has the resources and priorities to support its atheletes academically so they can earn their degree and use it after their NFL career. That's always the right answer: we'll prepare you for the NFL and do everything to help you earn your degree. If the football player doesn't value the "earning your degree" part, the parents almost always do and often parents have a lot of input into the decision on who to sign with on the dotted line.

If the player is LDS and serious about a mission then Bronco can pitch that too.
