Damn I really don't want to play the role of Riley defender. I promise I wanted to commit to Heaps from the start and think Lark got the shaft from the coaches.

But NMSU is NMSU. I'm just sayin'...

It's is just NMSU, but we can still tell something from this game. And the something we can tell is that despite the competition, this kid throws the ball about 10x better than Riley. Even if it is NMSU, he made some throws that actually beat coverage (like the 3rd and 5 to Hoff where despite perfect coverage he put the ball where only his receiver could come up with it), which is more times than I've ever seen it from Riley, who unless he has about a ten yard window around the receiver can't seem to make a decent toss.

And despite being NMSU, this is his first start ever, after the coaches basically forgot he was alive for the last three seasons. Seriously, no reps, no development, no attention whatsoever, and the kid comes out throwing the ball better (just in terms of deliver, accuracy, spiral, etc.) than the kid he's been sitting behind for the last three years. And on top of that, going into last season, in fall camp he was reportedly just behind Riley and close to taking him over for the backup spot. But when Riley sucks ass this year they don't even give him a shot? That's horseshit.

I'm sorry but we've watched a clusterfuck at the QB position for three years because of Bronco's ego. Nobody in the history of humanity has made a 2 QB system work, but Bronco thought he was going to be the first. That fails spectacularly (who saw that coming?!), so he's going to take a kid nobody else thought was a D1 QB and shove him down out throats to prove he knows something more than everyone else.

People watched Riley throw the ball three years ago and said he was never going to be anything at BYU. But Bronco, oh Bronco, he's going to prove everybody wrong because it will be a victory for his culture of hard work and grit and determination! Now only Bronco looks like the dumb ass, because three years ago even a bunch of dipshits sitting on a couch knew the kid couldn't do it on this level. Three years ago between Lark, Heaps and Munns, there was a quality D1 quarterback somewhere in there. But instead we've had to suffer through a three year quarterbacking debacle because Bronco's arrogance and own history as a player had him desperate to prove what everything else said couldn't be done. Bronco looks like a jackass right now.

Pretty funny to see BYU's 3rd and 4th string QBs come in the game and remember that these guys were big time, highly rated, QBs in high school and it's not surprising at all to see them do well. All the while Bronco sticks the POS that is Riley Nelson - even when he's hurt.

Hey Hsaru, I think you have wondered at times why you get so much resistance. Just a friendly note to point out that it is posts like this. Most of us have disagreed to some extent with Shaka about Riley, but most of us also know that Shaka is a good guy, and this continual harping just makes you seem like a dick, which I am sure you are not.

I'm almost as pissed after this game as I was after the last. I don't care that it was NMSU, everyone knows Lark is better than Riley. Bronco really f****d up. The players and fans were cheated out of a potentially special year.

Bronco in post game comments sounds either dishonest, or too proud to admit that maybe we shoulda woulda coulda with Lark.

That said, I'm a Bronco fan. I love where he took the program from where he started. He's a really good fit for our program.

Will he be able to get BYU to the next level? I can't say that he can.
