Yeah nothing would be better for recruiting than revoking scholies after each year to a bunch of under performers who you just 1-3 years earlier were sitting in their living room telling them they were the next great thing. That's what parents and HS coaches want to push kids towards.
I'm results oriented, and the kicking game has been an abject failure over the last few years in big games. BYU should have won this game like 16-3. BYU should have gone to OT with Utah this year. BYU shouldn't be falling apart against TCU due to the kicking game and special teams.

I lost my scholarship at BYU my freshman year due to not getting a 3.8 or higher. If you don't perform, you shouldn't get it renewed. These guys are hurting our team right now with their shoody and poor performances kicking the ball.

Doman sucks. If I had a kid who was a recruit for BYU football and the kid wanted to play offense I would send him out of state. Football in Utah is bad this year because the offensive coordinators suck.

Hill should be a running back. He would be great. I believe he could become a QB but not playing for Brandon Doman.

Our O-line is part of the problem but it is unclear to me how they've gotten so bad. I believe much of their problems originate with RB and QB coaching. Our running backs used to run laterally for a short distance then hit the hole hard. Now they start dancing the moment they touch the ball. Dupaix has been an unmitigated failure at RB coach. He should be sacked and Reynolds should move back to RB coach. Our QBs are the worst type to block for. They ad lib, dance around, check plays constantly at the line, and generally make it hard for the line. In short, Weber has had good lines but his lines have sucked since BD became the OC and Dupaix became the RB coach. In other words, we need to figure out who is really to blame and I suspect it isn't Weber.

Our receivers are very good. Its a shame we have shit for plays and the wrong kinds of QBs. These poor guys are watching their careers be wasted by a bad OC and a safety or RB at QB.
They probably should have just sat him out this year and gone with one guy to kick and punt.

Weber has not had good lines in his time here.

Ziggy is just awesome. He's on the short list of my favorite players on the team right now. Ziggy, KVN, JD. Love those guys.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Hmmmm. I thought he was the coach in '08 and '09. Also, the line in 10 was the only part about the offense that was consistently good and we ran the ball very well. I'm not sure how to measure the quality of a line but I think if JJ DiLuigi had a good year behind your line with a freshman QB then you must agree that the line had to have played well.

They were adequate those years. They certainly couldn't get it done against equal competition with regards to teams like TCU and Utah. There's been a gradual descent in to the extremely below average group we have right now.

The fact that guys aren't getting drafted, they're getting no push, they're not maintaining or creating a pocket, they're holding on every play, they're jumping before the snap, and they're playing completely rattled against anyone with a pulse makes me think it's a coaching issue accross the board.

Its probably a combination of all the offensive coaches. From what I understand, a major problem with BYU getting and keeping decent coordinators is the pay is not competitive with most other programs. I don't know if the program treats coaching positions as callings and a duty or what.

Well, they either need to pony up and get serious about paying guys or be happy about mediocre play some of the time.

I don't see any benefit to being a hardass on pay if you want to use this team as a missionary tool. You're talking about a minimal amount per year for a much difference result on the field.

I'd revoke their scholarships after the year and find new guys.
Our kicking game sucks but so does your comment. We have a Parade All-American highly recruited kicker that unfortunately had a serious back injury. His recovery has extended into this season and has forced the coaches to go with plan B which is having the punter kick. The coaches have been slowly reintegrating the injured kicker as he recovers. It's an unfortunate situation but right now it's our reality. I have confidence that Sorenson will return to form and turn into a fine kicker. However at this time it's unfair to be too critical considering the seriousness of his injury and the difficulty of his recovery. You simply do not kick Sorensen's kind of talent to the curb because you want to have a knee-jerk reaction.

Now if you had been paying attention you'd have noticed that USU's defense got great push into the field goals team's line which facilitated the kick being blocked. While it's easy to immediately blame the kicker it is smarter to take a deeper look into the situation.

Stephenson is the one who missed the extra point but I see many, including the Deseret News, who are blaming Sorensen. It's time to quit juggling kickers and have Sorensen be the guy for all placekicking duties. It looks like he has recovered enough and the kicking game will probably improve with the consistency.

I'd have preferred we just have Stephenson kick everything and have Sorensen redshirt if he wasn't ready to go from the beginning.

If he's playing, he needs to be able to perform. Back injuries are bad on kickers, so redshirting should have been an option.

The reality is, there shouldn't have ever been a situation where we had both guys kicking while one was recovering. The back and forth between the two is absurd. Go with one guy, redshirt the other, or go with both guys and have them divide the duties as we've done before.

My frustration stems from the bigger overall problem of our special teams and coaching, which has led to us not even being able to execute a point after appropriately, or even a chip shot FG. This has lead to multiple missed opportunities every game due to us going for it on fourth down often, not attempting an extra point at the end of a game to tie, or attempting poorly executed fake FGs.

If you're going to play this style of football where you grind it out with your defense, you need to have a good kicking game that can get some leads past 2 scores so you can't lose on the type of fluky crap like we saw against Boise and utah.
