Ziggy Ansah

He's bigger than Jevon Kearse, "The Freak", and bigger than Vernon Davis, who turned a lot of heads at the NFL Combine, and parlayed that into a first round draft pick.
I have no information on Ziggy's vertical, which both Kearse and Davis excelled at. But he is a basketball player, and with his athleticism, I can't believe his vertical is going to be low.
We can compare a little on the speed, with some research.
Jevon Kearse: 6'4", 262 lbs., 4.58 40-yard, 4.24 shuttle, vertical 37"
Vernon Davis: 6'3", 254 lbs., 4.38 40-yard, 4.17 shuttle, vertical 42", 33 reps bench press
Ziggy Ansah: 6'6", 270 lbs.
Just to get an idea of Ziggy's speed, I looked at some recent track meet results. Ziggy reportedly can run a 21.9 200 meter. 200 meter times are less common than 100 meter times, so I tried to correlate it to the 100. At a recent BYU track meet, a guy from Boise State who ran a 22.17 in the 200 meters ran the 100 in that same meet in 10.8. A BYU guy who ran the 200 in 21.7 ran the 100 in that same meet in 10.6. Another BYU guy ran the 200 in 21.53, and the 100 in 10.45. There's a pretty good correlation between speed in the 100 and speed in the 200. That's why you commonly see track athletes run both.
So I think if Ziggy's 200 time is accurate, I think a reasonable expectation for a 100 time for Ziggy would be somewhere between 10.7 and 10.9. Bear in mind, this is a guy who weighs 270.
The reason I correlated 200 times to 100 times is I couldn't find any 200 meter times for Vernon Davis or Jevon Kearse.
But I found a reference to Vernon Davis (in high school) running a 4.4 40, and 10.7 in the 100 meters.
The NFL combine in February is going to be very interesting. It wouldn't surprise me if Ziggy posts a 40 time in the mid-4.4 range. He could put up freakish numbers and become one of the stories of the combine. His play on the field is certainly starting to reflect his freakish athletic ability. If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

Almost famous
McShay: Ezekiel Ansah, DE, Brigham Young Cougars
A native of Ghana who hadn't even seen a football game on TV prior to coming to the U.S., Ansah has made huge strides in the past six months. He has cracked the starting lineup and is an impact player on a very good Cougars defense, playing nose tackle, 5-technique defensive end and outside linebacker. In BYU's blowout win over Hawaii on Friday night, Ansah had five tackles, one TFL, one QB hit and a pass breakup.
Ansah is still very raw. He plays high and needs a lot of work with his hands. But he's drawing NFL interest because of his rare combination of size, speed and natural athleticism (he's 6-foot-6, 270 pounds, and reportedly ran a sub-22-second 200-meter dash during his BYU track days). He flashes a quick first step, explosive initial pop and very rare closing burst for his size.

The ESPN commentators, when they weren't mentioning Taysom Hill's age, made mention several times that Ziggy clocked under 22 seconds in the 200M. The NCAA record is 19.69s, so 22s seems quite fast for a guy of Ansah's size.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostI haven't seen a 40 time for Ziggy listed. Is that not something that is done in the spring, and/or reported at BYU?Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

Yes, I heard that and saw SCC's extrapolation from that above. I just wondering if BYU, as a general rule, doesn't release 40 times. And if not, how come?Originally posted by lambdacoug View PostThe ESPN commentators, when they weren't mentioning Taysom Hill's age, made mention several times that Ziggy clocked under 22 seconds in the 200M. I didn't see SCC's extrapolation. Ziggy accelerates very well, so I suspect his 40 time is going to be very good.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostYes, I heard that and saw SCC's extrapolation from that above. I don't know who this banana dude is, but he always seems to have the goods. Anyway, cool if true:
http://www.cougarboard.com/board/mes...tml?id=9372309Ziggy NFL news...
I was just told that Mike Tannenbaum (New York Jets GM) and Buddy Nix (Buffalo Bills GM) were at practice the other day to watch Ziggy. Now, obviously GM's just don't normally come out to practice the way scouts do, unless they are interested in drafting a certain player in the 1st round. To give a better understanding of the magnitude of 2 NFL GM's coming out to a BYU practice, the last time an NFL GM made a flight out to Provo for a BYU practice was in 1998. Ziggy is turning heads, and getting NFL teams excited with play this year.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

There's been some speculation on CB that it's Jan Jorgensen. I wonder if there's anyone around here who can confirm or deny that.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI don't know who this banana dude is, but he always seems to have the goods. Anyway, cool if true:

I hadn't read that, but I've definitely considered him as a possibility.Originally posted by SoCalCoug View PostThere's been some speculation on CB that it's Jan Jorgensen.
