Let's look at the game.

BSU offensively scores zero.
BYUs defense is lights out all game.
You have Doman as you OC.
BSU has a worse place kicker than BYU.

The correct and only call was to kick the field goal and let your d win the game in OT. Your defense has dominated, let them dominate in OT and give you a chance to win. Not your freshman QB on a rollout.

I dont think our d fares well with a 25 yard field. BSU moved the all etter than us all night Our offense was pathetic all night. You really think there's a better chance to win in overtime than there was on the 2-pt conversion? I dont see it.

Edit: btw, fusnik, thanks for not simply calling for my removal from the board. I have rubbed you the wrong way, and for that I'm sorry. If you knew me in person, I swear you'd think I was a nice guy.

If I'm recalling the last drive correctly, Boise only needed a single first down to close out the game.

Although it's impossible to tell whether Boise would have just chosen to sit on the ball and take care of things in overtime had BYU just kicked the extra point, my feeling is that Boise would have been more inventive and tried to do it in regulation. If they failed and had to punt the ball back to BYU, so be it because they had held BYU in check most of the night. Because of BYU's lack of timeouts, Boise could have sat on the ball a couple plays if they found themselves in a 3rd and long situation after a mediocre 1st and 2nd downs and left BYU with little time on the clock.

It was a shockingly stupid thing to do and I don't even think one needs hindsight to see that.

I was dumbfounded when they lined for a 2-point conversion. With the defensive domination we had all game, no timeouts and nearly 4 minutes to play. A PAT forces BSU to score points or settle for OT. A PAT dictates to BSU what they must do. Outs all the pressure over the next 4 minutes on BSU to score. That changes the game. If there was no time on the board, or we had timeouts, I can appreciate a gutsy call to go for 2, not like this one though. We declined to force BSU's play and went for the quick knockout punch, which left us open and puts us on our heels. Sure a quick 2 and a 1 pt lead would've been nice, but sometimes you gotta go with strategy, not cajones. It was a bad call, ballsy, but bad.

With 4 minutes to play, no timeouts, our anemic offense, and combined with no onsides kick? Absolutely stupid. I and said so as soon as I saw the offense lining up to go for it.

As soon as I saw he was going to 2, I did as USCoug did. And started saying "No no no no no no no no no no"!!!!

I praise him for being aggressive and showing confidence in the Offense but this was not the time.. It was time to lay the confience to your D who had pretty much assured a win by their outstanding goal line stance and holding BSU to 0 TD's on the Offense..

It seemed a bit desparate actually and that scares me as well...

Before we scored, my 10 yo was saying "we have a great chance to win in overtime. Our D is totally stopping them and their field goal kicker sucks." When we were going for 2, he looked at me with the most horrible pained look on his face "Why are we going for 2? What is Bronco thinking??"

I liked the decision, but didn't like the play. There must be a better 2 point conversion play in our package than that.

Doman's offense now appears to be: QB run for your life either left or right, look up for someone to throw it to, if not tuck it and run.

This is exactly the same as my youth flag football team's offense.

He missed an early field goal. Apparently they've had troubles in their first two games. Peterson went for it on every fourth down from there on out.

The guy who punts inside the 40 elects to go for two when an extra point would tie and your defense has a chance to force OT. And then when that fails, decides that kicking off instead of the onsides kick was a better strategy. I need that :igiveup: smiley back.

Nerdy but serious comment here. Coaches are not equipped to compute probabilities in their head on the fly. I've always wondered if it would make sense to have a full time or consultant statistician, maybe even a grad assistant from the stats department or something. And just stand their on the sideline and tell the coach nerdy stuff like advice on probabilities on stuff like going for 2, punting, onside kick, etc.
