I don't understand all the BYU Fan defeatism because of one game, a game we should have won, a game in a very hostile environment (yeah, sure UofUtah pUkes*, you really don't care), a game we only lost by 3 points. UofUtah is no better than BYU right now, even after all the hooplah of PAC 12; no better (and much, much worse in basketball).

That was so weird. I went on the field after two rivalry wins. It never even occured to me to head for Utah players or staff. In fact, if I would have come near one, I probably would have given them extra room.

We're 3-8 against them over the last 11 years. It's taken miracles for us to beat them over this time. They've been invited to the PAC10, won 2 BCS games, and completely surpassed us over that time.

All while we sit idly by and pontificate on how awesome yesteryear was. Our administration isn't committed to playing football at the highest level, in my opinion. They overplayed their B12 hand and now we're stuck in a bad situation. But hey, we're on TV a lot. There is that.

Precisely. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on BYU football yet, but pretty much every indication of late is that those in charge are not as fully invested in the program as they want the fans to be.

In the two years prior to the start of this season, BYU managed just two wins over teams that finished the year with winning records. And both of those wins (against Utah State and Tulsa in 2011) were squeaked out in the final 11 seconds of the game.

Remember the year the Ute players started to pull down the goal post at RES? My brother, a freshman that year, got so fired up that he and a group of fans jumped down and tried to surround the goal post to "protect it". He said about 3 seconds after arriving at said post, he got the sudden realization that these guys are a lot bigger when you're standing among them than they look from 30 rows up. I'd imagine he looked a lot like suspenders boy as he made his way back into the stands.

Here is the problem, Lebowski. This loss just reminds people of BYU's hopeless condition overall. It's like being horribly overweight and having no job but a really attractive, smart women who lives nearby you smiles and says hi. You're then walking on air, deluding yourself that she can appreciate all kinds of subtle outstanding qualities in you. But next time you run into her she's with some adorable hunk successful lawyer and she ignores you; she notices you but gives you a sightless look. The hopelessness of your whole situation comes crashing home. You're not going to tell youself there are other fish in the sea. That's what BYU fans have been experiencing since Saturday night.

Note in the U-Y thread almist immediately after the doink! (lol) people started posting negativism, not about the game per se but about BYU's bleak future and hopeless place in the cosmos using the word "independent" a lot.

This might be the funniest post I've ever read.

Imagine if you lived at home with your parents while you were in college. These should be the best years of your lives and instead nothing's changed, you're still watching syndicated reruns of Alf on KJZZ every night while mom is getting dinner ready. You need an outlet to strike back against the bourgeoise at least once in awhile and that's the Utah vs. BYU game. This is why that game will always mean more to those people.

this is not good

I like that we are upgrading our schedule with independence. Last year sucked, this year is no worse than the MWC, next year will be brutal. I think we are on a collision course with unequivocally exposing our weaknesses. Hopefully this will serve as a catalyst to fix those weaknesses, but I'm not overly optimistic we'll actually fix things as opposed to pointing to the exposure and saying how awesome we are.

I didn't see many posts about the end of BYU football. Were you exaggerating for emphasis?

What I saw is the ongoing realization that on the present course Utah will be the dominant FB program in the state, not the end of BYU football.

Would you argue that with the facts as they are now, BYU will become the elite program Bronco and Holmoe have talked about?

We've had plenty of chances to have a get right game over the last few years.

We don't win big games against good opponents.
