U vs. Y '12

Bronco is not a great head coach. I don't care what his record is. But he has maxed out and reached the ceiling of his potential as the head guy. He can be a great DC anywhere in D1, I am convinced of that. But he isn't the guy to take us to the next level. Unfortunately, the only guy that can we can't wrestle away from the hill. We have no other option, and that sucks.

This season is now busted. Turn the offense over to Taysom and let him develop and get the experience he'll need so we're not completely embarrassed next year. We have a couple tough games left, but enough patsies to get to our pre-determined bowl.

I love Doman. I do. But he's testing our relationship mightily right now. I didn't think it would take this long for him to get a handle on this offense. Running off Anae was a poor move. I'd take him back in a heartbeat. I'd take predictable over the option and these ill-devised run plays. That said, I still think Doman will get it. But that time needs to come sooner than later.

Let Lark start and have Hill back him up. There is no upside to Riley.

Sure, I agree. Sorry for the double negative. Colly was saying Whit made the right choice to go to Utah because they can recruit better athletes. I agree with you and meant that BYU has as good of athletes as Utah. But they made all kinds of mistakes that you would hope smart, older players wouldn't make. 10 false starts?

Whoops, I read your post too quickly.

The maddening part is that our coaching staff can't seem to get our players ready for this stupid game. We play relatively fine throughout the season, but we routinely shit the bed when we play Utah. The whole team turns to freshman who've never played in a game bigger than the 3A state playoffs.

Silver lining? We didn't lay down and die like last year. Our boys have heart, they just aren't coached well. I love Riley, kid has guts, he just ain't very good.

Not biting. The BYU defense is excellent. BJ's call after the turnover was a great call.

Not as good as many think, and our being good was mostly system. The winning led to decent but no better than what we have now. This program has been about as good as Bronco has it since the mid 80's. The thing missing is one year with talent like this where BYU doesn't shoot itself in the foot. But they are what they are. 2 things I don't think BYU is leveraging under Bronco is poise and OL play. Those should be two core strengths at BYU although coming back showed some poise.

The thing that killed me is that I was under the impression that when Utah's corners inexplicably allow our best WR to slip behind the coverage for a 40+ yard play, we are supposed to win the game. How did the script get flipped?

BYU in the 80s is like Boise State of the last 5-6 years. Not as consistently superior, but the highs were higher.

Doman has to shoulder some blame, right? Nelson is his guy, he's running the offense; he has responsibility for making sure the offense is prepared to move the ball. For the second straight year, our O looked rattled against our rival.
