I would be saying the same thing if it were a BYU QB. John White ran 24 times for 115 yards. Really? Against Northern Colorado? That's a good line for him against USC. I'm not saying they can't get better, but both the passing and run games were extremely underwhelming when you consider the competition. Sorry to crash the thread, but sometimes a reality check can be helpful. Again, ute fans, you played a NoCo team that didn't win a game and lost got blown out by Idaho last year. These are numbers from your offense that would be considered mediocre in conference play, let alone against a bad FCS team.

The shutout by the defense? Anything less would be disappointing.

BYU plays Weber next week - Weber is better than NoCo (everybody is), but they suck - if Riley can't do better than 27 passes for 200 and a pick and Alisa can't do better than 4-5 ypc, I will be making similar comments about my team.
smokymountainrain, we all realize that cougjunkie has left a huge hole around here but, if you're going to take up the mantra, you have to realize that there's much more to his craft than sheer assholery. For instance, cj would never have ventured that last night's NoCol team was "the same team" as last year's. Instead, he would have named specific NoCol players, recruiting trees, names of their girlfriends, embarrassing stories about the Utah secondary, and intended graduation dates of all starters. There's only one cougjunkie, but if you're going to be the torchbearer of "your 40-point victory sucked" posts, you're going to have to step up your game.

I don't think there's much to take from last night except to be glad the Utes avoided major injury.

Thanks for the constructive criticism! That said, it's the first game the season. I will get better as the utes will get better.

      • I saw a family of 3 BYU fans decked out in their "Rise Up" shirts as I was leaving the stadium last night. I wish I had been quicker to take a picture.

          • Whitt’s Game 1 Modus Operandi

2005 – barely escaped an AZ team at home (a team that finished the year 3-8).

            2006 – lost to UCLA 31-10.

            2007 – lost to Oregon St. 24-7

2008 – beat Michigan 25-23, but didn’t play particularly well.

            2009 – beat Utah State 35-17 (a 4-8 Utah State team .. game was 26-17 at half).

            2010 – 27-24 OT win against Pitt

2011 – 27-10 Montana St. – recall that fan bitch fest.

Whitt's teams routinely seem to start of slow, and this is probably Kyle's most complete season opener as a head coach (granted against his weakest opponent).

Besides, do you really want your team to be hitting on all cylinders in game one? I hope BJ and Wynn and the OL and Peterson are a little frustrated after last night. They need to improve, work harder and be much sharper in week 2. I will start complaining when there are credible things to start complaining about.

IOW, you want to do such an awful job of imitating him that he can't stand it and comes back to show you how it's done.

Let's hope not. People actually get along and have decent discussions in the football forum after he and MesaBalboa left the joint.

Utah has an obstacle. If Utah's O-line and QB don't wake the hell up, then Utah might be looking avoid falling to 1-2.

The USU game has me uneasy. It has for weeks. USU is going to be bonkers. They will be substantially better on defense than NoCo.

It's been easy for both Utah and BYU fans to write off the USU game as an easy win for years. BYU now knows that isn't the case. I think Utah is going to find out on Friday.
I agree. USU will be much better then NoCo on both sides of the ball. They beat a team in SUU that is much better than NoCo and completely dominated them on both sides of the ball. Keaton was 22-26 with 300 yards through the air in about 2.5 quarters. USU also ran for nearly 250. The starters didn't take a snap in the 4th quarter. It would not shock me at all if USU wins next week.

I'm not too concerned. Yes, USU is much better than No. Colorado, but Utah's defense is exponentially better than SUU's defense.

Will I guarantee a Utah win? No, but I really can't see how USU wins this game, particularly considering that teams seem to show the most improvement between the first and second game of the season.

Doesn't USU get to improve between weeks 1 and 2 as well?

I'm worried about Utah State. I believe we will beat them by at least 2 scores but the outcome maybe hotly contested well into the third quarter.

Only a 41 point win against such a crappy team. Imagine the crapitude of a team that Utah could actually beat by more than 41.
