Of course. But Utah's improvement compared to SUU > USU's improvement compared to No. Colorado.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostDoesn't USU get to improve between weeks 1 and 2 as well?"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Let me ask you some questions and please answer honestly:Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostBYU will be undefeated.
Utah has an obstacle. If Utah's O-line and QB don't wake the hell up, then Utah might be looking avoid falling to 1-2.
The USU game has me uneasy. It has for weeks. USU is going to be bonkers. They will be substantially better on defense than NoCo.
It's been easy for both Utah and BYU fans to write off the USU game as an easy win for years. BYU now knows that isn't the case. I think Utah is going to find out on Friday.
1) If you were playing ping pong against a blind person what is a satisfactory margin of victory?
2) Would you be "totally pumped up" to play the blind guy?
3) Would you "totally go all out" if you knew that your next ping pong opponent was not blind and a lot tougher?
I think that the Utes left a lot to be desired, but this game was worthless from the get-go and we all knew it. Thank goodness Wynn had a tune-up game to shake out all the cobwebs he did in the first quarter.

Why was this game played on Thursday night?Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Whirlwind trip, with the highlight meeting Hostile and one of his Hostilites.
1. Great that football is back. Utah playing Greely High JV squad is all it took to feed the addiction.
2. I wonder if NoCo would have gained 10 yards if Utah's defense decided to show some real intensity. They reminded me of Neo after he could see the Matrix. Almost absent mindedly dominating Agent Smith. They were focused, but you could tell that they were not totally into blowing up the Bears.
3. Running game was very conservative. Off tackle, counter, dive. Rinse and repeat.
4. I wanted to see the O Line be a little more nasty. Finish blocks to the whistle. I would have taken a John Cullen personal foul just to see someone a little pissed off. On the plus side, no motion penalites and no holding penalties(that I recall).
5. It seemed to me that Johnson wanted to practice the 4 minute offense for the whole game. Evidenced by the 21 play drive for the last offensive TD. I don't think that the playcalling was intentionally vanilla or bland. It had the feel that he had an agenda of tasks he wanted to accomplish with each series. "Ok, lets work on off tackle and drag routes right now" hmmm "How about crossing patterns and formation shifts now". Fans wanted a 60 pt. 600 yard explosion. As entertaining as that would be, I think he was calling plays with more of a purpose of continuing to train the offense for the year. This was essentially a 60 minute scrimmage for him to learn about his players.
6. Plenty of words have been wasted on the internet destroying Coleman Peterson. Peterson had two games last year where he couldn't get out of his own head. BYU with a missed FG and XP, then the Shankopotamus bit him again against Colorado. Hopefully this is one of he two games that he was planning to implode this season. He was nails in the wind of Heinz Field and the snow at WSU last season. He has it in him, hopefully he rediscovers himself. Marsh wasn't the answer last year and he isn't this year as well.
7. DB's need to spend about 1 hour each night with the JUGS machine during the next few weeks.
8. Wilson has a ton of athleticism. Given that they are determined to play him this year, I wish they would have let him run the regular offense during the 4th quarter. It would have been some good experience instead of just read-option, dive, read-option, etc, etc, etc.
9. The young linebackers looked a little glassy eyed. First game jitters, but I don't think we saw their best effort for the season.
10. As long as he stays healthy, Jake Murphy is going to be the best tight to suit up at Utah.Last edited by Jarid in Cedar; 08-31-2012, 09:33 PM."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

I think they like the long week to work on things between game 1 and game 2. I like that they start on Thursday. 2 less days that I am deprived of Utah Football.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostVery strange. SUU is horrid on defense. Graduation was not kind to that unit. If I was an Aggie fan, I would be dissappointed that they only scored 13 points after the first quarter.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostI agree. USU will be much better then NoCo on both sides of the ball. They beat a team in SUU that is much better than NoCo and completely dominated them on both sides of the ball. Keaton was 22-26 with 300 yards through the air in about 2.5 quarters. USU also ran for nearly 250. The starters didn't take a snap in the 4th quarter. It would not shock me at all if USU wins next week.
I did expect a little more out of SUU's offense than they showed."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

Usu played backups a lot of the 2nd half. They would have had two more tds but third string didn't come through in the endzone.Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostSUU is horrid on defense.
