Arizona's never been to the Rose Bowl. Cal hasn't for sixty years. Oregon State hasn't been in my lifetime. Yet, here you are pumping up teams that haven't been relevant in nearly a decade. Washington State has been a laughing stock of college football in recent years.

Every conference has it's dregs. Quit acting like it's all peaches and cream in the PAC. Kentucky has been to bowl games in five of the last six years. Vandy has been to 2 bowls in the last 4 years, and seems to be on an upward trajectory. Miss State has been to three since 2007. Might want to recheck how well versed you claim to be in college football.
Arizona was in the hunt for a national championship in 1998, Cal was PAC-10 conference co-champions as recently as 2006, Washington State went to the Rose Bowl in 2002, and Oregon State was PAC10 co-champs and won the Fiesta Bowl in 2000. Kentucky, Miss State, and Vanderbilt have no conference championships or BCS bowl game appearances between them in I don't know how long. So you're wrong in implying they're comparable, and you're off topic anyway. If you'd like to discuss U of U non-conference scheduling, please do so. If you'd like to discuss PAC-12 vs. SEC, start your own thread. Thank you.

And after I was so welcoming. Not good form UU78!

Anyway, I'm in general agreement with 3D and SoCalPat, you seem a little over the top in your rah rah-ness. And I've found Southerners to be quite agreeable, so I don't get that.

Ruh-roh. Looks like the housebreaking period is about to begin. Will UU78 knuckle under to the doctrine that he is welcome here as long as his Uteness is muted and he never knocks BYU?

If Ute-ness means having to lie on your back and spread your legs to everything Pac-12, all while never passing up a chance to rub it in to BYU's face, then I'm hitching my wagon to Oklahoma State.

The enthusiasm for the Pac-12 was good for about a year, but now it's just embarrassing. It's probably to compensate for the fact that since we joined, we haven't done jack shit of note in our new league.

How much net income does the U receive from one extra hom-game against a poor quality opponent? Maybe it is significant. But so significant that it is "paramount" to being competitive in the P12? Seems unlikely to me. So how much $$$?

                    Nope, it doesn't mean that.

Cheer up. The ride's just beginning. Forgive our Ute brother for a little exuberance.

There's exuberance, and then there's clearly demonstrating you're in need of a full-frontal lobotomy. I doubt 78 has been to a college football game east of the Rockies, yet he's yammering on as if he has Kirk Herbstreit's credibility.

The U of U is already behind most of the PAC-12 programs in revenue, if not all. Adding an additional handicap by only scheduling 6 home games, when it's perfectly possible to schedule 7, would be very unwise. Additional home games also add to the fans' experience, strengthening the fan base, so there are some intangibles aside from the monetary benefits.

A big portion of the U of U fan base needs to move on from the days where the main concern of the football season was to beat BYU.

I've been to at least a dozen football games east of the Rockies while living in the midwest for nearly 10 years. Big 12 and Big 10 teams. So you're wrong. If memory serves me right, you live in Kansas and have lived there for a long time. I prefer the West. I wasn't a fan of the midwest. I apologize if that upsets you, but I honestly wouldn't be nearly as excited if Utah was in the Big 12. Big 10 would be pretty cool the more I think about Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State. But I think Penn State is going to lose a lot of glamour after the whole JoPa dying after a big sex scandal.

But the topic of this thread Utah non-conference scheduling. If you'd like to talk about possible Big10 opponents, such as Michigan, go right ahead. If you'd like to talk about the feasibility of scheduling both BYU and USU every year, go right ahead. Personally, I'd prefer alternating the in-state rivals so that the U can have the same type of variability seen in the other PAC12 members' schedules.

I'd be curious to know where you have road tripped for a football game.

No, actually the enthusiasm is due to the shit-tons of money the U of U earns due to the PAC-12 compared to the nickles and dimes we were getting from the MWC. It's also due to the fact that we'll be competing for a chance to go to the Rose Bowl, rather than the Las Vegas bowl. It's also due to the fact that we used to consider a schedule great if we got 2 PAC 12 teams on it, whereas now we get 9 every single year.

So yes, I'm enthused, and to say that we haven't done jack shit of note in our league after one season is such a very childish spazzy reaction to a an 8-5 season. The odds-makers have us favored in all but two games this coming year. Our defense is regarded as being the best in the PAC-12, and Star Lotulelei has been discussed as being one of the top NFL prospects. Yeah, jack shit . Top Ute, stay on topic or start your own thread, seriously, I'm done with you.
