    I agree. I live in Herriman, but I talked to one of the kids on the team this morning, and his attitude was like I had said.

    Lots of Jazz fans were mad we drew the Spurs last year, but in reality, you'll probably have to take them out at some point.

    I see both sides, and it's unfair that these teams "cheating" screws up the bracket and whatnot.

      Maybe I'm not the best person to comment on this. I had to end the season for a star athlete and I was so worried about it I ended up calling one of the most respected doctors in my mind, a D1 team doc. He said to me, "the coach, parents, and athletic director might forget this, but remember this is just a game". That is now my attitude when approaching sports injuries. This situation is like Taysom Hill's injury. It sucks, comes from a bad decision, it affects people's jobs, and it is still just a game.

      I see a lot of kids with injuries from sports. It's hard to tell a kid and parents that their season/career is over. I try and remind them that as much as they want to finish the season, I want them to be able to use their arm/leg/head for the rest of their lives.

        They pointed out that Timpview self-reported one player and received the full penalty, but East had four players and were reported by another school, but they only got a partial penalty. Since the outcome negatively impacts a large number of schools, they should have either applied no penalty, or applied the penalty equally. Anything else is arbitrary and unfair. Tough to argue with that.

        I think they really bungled that one. Wouldn't surprise me to see a judge get involved.

          What's the difference in playing East early or late in the playoffs? You have to beat them eventually. Herriman should shut up and play.

            No, had the rules been applied uniformly they wouldn't be playing East at all. But at least they get them at home.

            I think Cyprus got the worst deal of all. Their loss to East was not overturned and therefore they miss the playoffs.

                New high school, second year of existence. I don't believe they made the playoffs last year. They were 5A last year, 4A this year.

                  Timpview all over Logan 42-14 early in the 4th quarter in Logan. I am sure the Logan team and fans aren't happy about facing Timpview in the first round game. But at least they had homefield advantage.

                    Timpview rolls over East in the 4A semifinals, 32-14. Will face Mountain Crest next week for the 4A title.

                    Sounds like several East players are headed to BYU. One of the bigger teams I have seen in a while.

                    Timpview QB Jake Lloyd with another fantastic game. Now has 49 TDs on the year with only 6 INTs. He is a little on the small side, but I will be shocked if he doesn't end up on a D-1 team somewhere.

                        Were you at the game? I was watching online via the DesNews feed. Freaky, watching Utah highschool football from overseas. Looked cold.

                          We (my son and I) were planning on it, but bailed when we saw the weather forecast. My daughter attended. I watched the video feed from my office.

                                I'd seen the video before and thought "that's just weird".

                                I can see the point of view that a kid is coming at you full steam and you want to protect yourself and/or anyone behind you. So you put your arms out and stop the kid. At the same time, George Stephfnfdsiopoijasdfous has a point - if he really didn't intend any harm, why didn't he ever make a move to help the kid up? I would also ask him - if that was your kid, is that how you would've stopped him on the sideline?

                                I also thought it was funny that the initially said that this play ended the kids season due to a concussion. But later in the story say that the original charges were dropped due to lack of evidence of physical injury.

                                This whole episode brings a question up for me - sometimes an illegal hit (whether it be late, out of bounds, after a fair catch signal, etc.) is SO obvious, I've wondered if there has ever been contemplation to charge a player with assault for a hit that takes place outside of what could be considered the legal play of the game when serious injury has been the result. Particularly when it is obvious that harm is intended.
