Thanks for burying the lede. It sounded like the kid would have a hard time being academically eligible at BYU, anyway. Now going on a mission. He's really bought into this whole Mormon thing, hasn't he?

They should do a sign and send with him in my opinion.

How many BYU recruits are also being targeted by Utah? I'm told by a coworker (a Utah fan) that Utah is on to bigger and better recruits but my neighbor (a BYU fan) says Utah is quite skilled in waiting until BYU offers a kid and then swooping in with their own offer and a promise of all the benefits BYU offers but none of the baggage. I don't really follow recruiting and not sure if either of these guys know what they are talking about.

Utah did this recently with Tre Flowers. Not sure there is anything wrong with that. You go after the recruits you want, even if other schools have already offerred them.
              Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

It appears that with local/LDS recruits, Utah is in the mode of offering the "can't miss" recruits early but holds off a while on offering the others until they get them into camp or see more of them.

BYU, OTOH, seems to be quicker to offer the local/LDS kids.

Thus, I think you see Utah offering kids that BYU may have already offered.

I don't think it's as big of a deal as either of your friends are making it. Your Utah friend is a bit silly with his statement. Utah still needs to get good local kids or those with "ties" to the local culture. Your BYU friend is a bit overboard in his view that Utah waits and then swoops in.

I think BYU and Utah both have their own approaches and timelines in offering local kids. Utah is going to offer who they want when they want. BYU is going to do the same.

This is typically true but the Tre Flowers story (as detailed by Brandon Gurney) seems to better support your BYU neighbors narrative. Here's a kid in Texas that has had some exposure to BYU due to a past teammate. BYU ends up offering the kid and some time later here comes Morgan Scalley with an offer from Utah. Now, given that this kid is a safety, I respect Morgan's ability to assess this kids talents, but it seems hard to believe that Utah's offer wasn't a direct response to BYU's offer. Not necessarily that Utah is offering as a reaction to BYU's offer, but more likely the fact that BYU's offer put this kid on Utah's radar, so they checked him out and liked what they saw. This actually happens all the time and is essentially how the star ranking system can get so messed up. Kids ranking becomes a product of who's offered them more than talent. And who offers them at times is a reaction to another team that has offered. "If he's good enough for Michigan, he's good enough for us." The recruiting arms race. Arms and legs.
I told him he was a goddamn Nazi Stormtrooper.

I hadn't read that Gurney article about Flowers.

Not really related to this topic, but I get a kick out of these specific areas of study. Radiology? It's not even relevant to your undergraduate studies. You've got to graduate, get into med school and then apply to a radiology residency.

I hope for BYU's sake that BYU has a good radiology program...

yeah, right? It's like when they say pre-law.

It's even funnier than when they say pre-law.

I mean, we are talking a specialty program AFTER med school AFTER undergraduate.

Saying "I want to go to a school with a strong radiology program" might be the silliest of these types of comments I have heard.

I'm waiting for a kid to someday say, "I want to go to a school with a strong pediatric cardiology program."

My sister was in a radiological sciences program and a lot of the students simply referred to it as a "radiology" program. That could be what he means. Does BYU have some type of program like that?
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Brayden Kearsley posted a picture of himself burning a note with the drum-and-feather on it:

He also called someone who made a negative comment on the photo a "faggot". Seems like a winner.

You forgot to mention that he can't even conjugate "you are" correctly.

Whether he is a winner will depend on whether he follows through on his promise to beat the Utes' asses.
