BYU Recruiting 2013

JC recruiting season is typically later than with HS players -- especially as HS players commit earlier and earlier each year, mostly due to the use of summer camps. If December rolls around and it looks like nothing is happening on the JC front, then it might be time to be concerned.

Cougar_Center: "Brayden Kearsley will take a visit to Alabama, but remains solid in his commitment to BYU"
Okay, if you say so.

They only have to make it through three semesters. Historically, it's been our best method of getting non-LDS recruits on the football field.Originally posted by Babs View PostBear in mind that the better juco recruits often ended up at juco because of academic or other off-field problems. Those kids probably aren't going to be a great fit for BYU, anyway.

This is a solid JC pick up for BYU, IMO. This strikes me as similar to the level of CBs BYU was recruiting out of JC in the late 90's. If this kid makes it to BYU (likely something that should keep the summer exciting as we all participate in the Davion Orphey Watch), stays eligible and develops he could go a long way in keeping BYU's defense as good. If BYU can pick up a couple of these JC DL they are recruiting, and by pick up I mean the players qualify and make it to Provo, next year's defense could be pretty stout again - especially if KVN returns for his senior year. A starting 11 of Kaufusi, JC, Muehlman or JC, KVN, Hadley, Pikula, Fua, Orphey, Johnson, Sorenson, and Bills could be pretty good.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostBYU got a JC secondary commit today. I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

http://byucougars.blogs.deseretnews....ommits-to-byu/PROVO — BYU will be in need of immediate cornerback help next season and to that end secured the commit of Davion Orphey from Santa Ana junior college in Calif. Orphey is a 6-foot-1, 185 cornerback prospect who had offers from Utah, Utah State, Boise State, and New Mexico among others.
Orphey took an official visit to BYU back in July and immediately took to the school’s atmosphere and football program.
“BYU is the kind of place you can go and keep your head straight,” said Orphey. “I loved the people and everything about the school. I felt comfortable right away and I was sort of expecting that the way coaches talked about the place.”
While on his visit Orphey forged a strong friendship with current BYU cornerback Jordan Johnson.
“Jordan isn’t LDS like (I’m not LDS), but told me how great BYU was and I really became good friends with him,” said Orphey. “We talked a lot after and I called him right after I committed to BYU and he was very happy about it.”
Orphey will be a strong candidate to replace Preston Hadley at the boundary corner position when he joins BYU’s team next season.
“It’s a great situation for me at BYU,” said Orphey. “I love the school, the atmosphere and I’ll have a chance to play early. It’s really everything I could want in a school and in a football program. I love the coaches there and I know it’s the best place for me.”
Hopefully he's able to step in right away for Hadley. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Maybe he watches the games.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostSo are we going to lose Kearsley now? Scout is showing him as a "soft" verbal and others are saying he's now uncommitted.

He is a soft commit to BYU, but insists he is keeping his options open. He currently holds additional offers from Oregon St, Arizona St, UCLA, Utah, Kansas, Colorado, and Hawaii.

Jordan J-NEI: Talk about the recruiting process and your commitment to BYU?
Brayden Kearsley: “The process is going well but signing day still seems far away. Things will pick up and it will come quick as it just gets more intense, especially with colleges being able to call you. I will take all my visits and enjoy my once in life time experience, but also be looking intently at the programs.”"What are you prepared to do?" - Jimmy Malone

What offensive player, let alone lineman, would go to BYU if he had options?Originally posted by The_Douger View PostWould you go to BYU to have Coach Weber coach you right out of the NFL draft and put you in to horrible situations on the line?
They're better get it together with this kid. He's the real deal.
No scheme, horrible line play, misuse of receiving and tight end talent. Doman has turned this offense into a smorgasbord of schemes with lots of piss poor option runs, QB draws, screen passes, and slants.
Weber's performance is stunningly bad.
If I were a recruit I'd go someplace successful and stable, BYU is neither.
