Questions, two:

Would it be wrong for me to be in charge of planning the law school tailgates next year?

Would it be tacky to attend them while wearing crimson?

Hey, it's hardly my fault BYU was inconsiderate enough to schedule the game in a week I worked 80 hours! And besides, the cuffers all wanted BBQ. I loathe BBQ.

That sounds good, until there aren't enough 7 win teams to fill all bowls. This year there were 35 bowls, I assume that number will be equal or greater next year.

A quick count says that last year there were 62 teams with 7 wins, 14 of which were 7-6 meaning they possibly didn't have 7 wins going into bowl season. So unless we are supposed to believe that the NCAA is going to cancel bowls we will just see a lot more waivers like UCLA got last year. Then over the course of the next couple of years we will see a dramatic increase in FCS vs. FBS games, and a rule change that you can count more than 1 game against FCS towards bowl record eligibility.

I took that the overall bowl count will be reduced with this.

Everything's been finalized now. They can participate in offseason activites as of Monday.

Rule changes for 2012: touchbacks will be brought out to the 25-yard line, and kickoffs will be moved up to the 35-yard line.

Also, players who lose their helmet during the course of a play will have to sit out the next play (unless it's ripped off by an opponent via the facemask).

Interesting. How does the new helmet rule promote safety?

In BYUs case, players were losing helmets right and left all season. The immediate solution seemed to be to put the helmet back on. What is the purpose of going to the sideline to put the helmet back on?

There was already a rule in place that required the player to stop advancing the ball if the helmet came off. I guess now the rule extends to anyone in play, regardless of whether the player has the ball. Credit BYU for changing the game of college football yet again! :rockon2:

Good for the NCAA.

BYU is the worst offender I have seen. The players helmets are either too big, or they aren't inflated correctly. Either way it is not good for the players.

Ever had your ass chewed out by your coach? I have.

Coaches will now make sure that the helmets fit correctly. It is a players safety issue. A properly inflated helmet can also help reduce concussions.

The equipment is being used correctly. It may be ill fitting. But the team isn't purposely sending players into games with ill fitting equipment. This new rule accomplishes nothing. Reminds me of the post 9/11 airport rules that disallow you from waiting at the curb to for more than a few seconds to pick someone up. Window dressing that doesn't solve any problem.
