Someone really needs to let KVN know that he has NFL talent and that he should seriously explore going pro early. In fact, it is in his best interests to enter the draft this year.

Well, he can up until the point when he faces a defense that can also play 500.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I had this argument on FB last night. I lamented the state of the program. Response: What is there to complain about? We're 10-3!

I speculated that he was probably shaken by the whole fan reaction (chanting for Riley and what not), but at this point I'm guessing that whatever happened between him and Doman was probably the biggest factor.

Think about how he responded to questions after the Utah game about wtf play on the fumble/td. He got schorched in the media for calling out his teammates for their errors, but couldn't see his own contributions to the result of the game. I think the coaching staff called him out on the carpet about that as his comments at the weekly coaching show 2 days later were much more contritie

Had Nebraska defeated OU, the Huskers would have gone to a BCS Bowl.

The point is that a team can make a BCS run with RS Freshman QB if there is enough talent surrounding him. Nebraska had a NFL RB (Roy Helu - Redskins) on offense but little else. BYU in 2013 will have better talent on offense than Nebraska in 2011. Not sure how Taysom Hill compares to Taylor Martinez but Martinez could best be described as servicable - he's no Ty Detmer or even Braxton Miller. Nebraska did have a very good defense in 2011 and that is probably just as important as having an excellent QB.
I can think of a number of examples of freshman/redshirt freshman that have played very well. Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford, Andrew Luck, Kellen Moore just off the top of my head. One can say that citing to these kinds of guys is unfair, but the fact is a number of freshman and redshirt freshman start -- and they fail -- while many of the good ones end becoming players of note like McCoy and Bradford. The ones that fail typically get benched unless the backup options are worse.

There are three main categories of guys that start when they're freshmen/redshirt freshmen:

                1. Guys that fail
                2. Guys that succeed from the beginning and then get even better.
                3. Guys that play like shit at the beginning and then blossom

The third type is rare, but not unheard of. I don't think Matt Barkley's 131 passer rating in 2009 against that schedule that USC played is playing like shit. I do think Jake Heaps compiling around a 100 through BYU's first five games is playing like shit.

I'm not sure how Taysom Hill will do. It's not entirely unreasonable to think he could play as well as Max Hall did as a redshirt sophomore -- are their circumstances going to be that much different? How much game action did Hall have prior to starting the first game of 2007?

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I'm just angry that I believed in Heaps. Its not hard to see why his teammates didn't.

Yeah, somebody with the program's best interest in heart told Riley to give Apo a few starring passes in the Hawaii game.

Hoffman and Apo both living up to their potential and both being on the field at the same time is what keeps the candle of my hope as a BYU fan burning pretty bright.

Edit: And KVN, of course. Dude has serious potential to be the Jimmer of defense.
I think, perhaps, the only person who hates BYU fans more than ute fans hate BYU fans, is Bronco Mendenhall.

Several posters have hit the nail on the head. Don't redshirt Hill next year, then he is a sophomore in 2013. No freshman starter. Problem solved!

Unless he gets a lot of mop up minutes, I don't see a difference (other than perception) between a RS freshman and a sophomore, other than one has one less year of eligibility.

I'm not one bit upset. I can't stand Bronco and think Doman is the Simple Jack of offensive coordinators but Heaps sucked ass on the field this year despite ample opportunities. Good bye, Jake and Hsaru.

3A??!! Who annoints a 3A QB god almighty other than Hsaru?

Does the "Nelson Rule" aply to him since he transferred while on a mission?

I don't think it does as he never enrolled at Stanford.
