    Ironically, Utah State.

Although if he were smart, he'd transfer to Linfield College to work under the tutelage of the great Brett Elliott, who knows a little something about success after a fresh start.

My old man was recruited by Linfield. Also, Gidget is from McMinnville. Her family gave me a red and purple Linfield hoodie for Christmas a few years ago.

Can someone explain to me the transfer rules re: sitting period and eligibility?

I was under the impression that you essentially have five years of eligibility (including RS). If you transfer you either have to sit a year or burn a year of eliibility and/or redshirt. For example Fangupo transferred from USC and could play the next year, but had to give up a year of eligibility (I'm assuming he already Redshirted), so he's a Sr.

I think Fangupo didn't have to sit out because of the sanctions against USC.

When transferring to an FBS school, the player must sit out a year.

            Exceptions:

-Sanctions against the school permit players to transfer out without penalty, like Fangupo.
-A player has graduated and is enrolling in a graduate program not offered by their original school, like Masoli or that kid at Syracuse a couple seasons back.

Prior exceptions: Player serving a mission for at least 18 months could transfer to a new school without sitting out a year. This exception has been modified by the "Riley Nelson Rule" implemented when Utah State whined about Riley accepting a BYU offer (that his family had solicited) while on his mission.

A transferring player will generally use his redshirt year, if available. If the player used the redshirt year at the prior school, then he still sits out a year, but that year counts against his four years of eligibility.

Example: Max Hall used his redshirt year at ASU, then served an abbreviated mission. The NCAA ruled that he was not out on his mission long enough, so when he transferred to BYU, he had to sit out his redshirt freshmen season while running the scout team while Jo Beck was the starter, Ja Beck was the backup, and Bower was technically third string.

When transferring to an FCS school, there is no waiting period.

A friend's cousin recruited Darrell Scott to Colorado. He played his first year, rather than red shirt. He transfered to Southern Florida after his sophomore year, sat out a year, and played his junior year this year. You can see his player profile here:

It would be more authoritative to have the NCAA rule, but this example shows how the rule works.

He should have stayed. He missed out on the historic win in Salt Lake City.

As a true freshman, he rushed for 3.9 yards per carry. As a reward, his carries were dramatically reduced and he instead returned kickoffs. So he transfered and got major playing time, rushing for 5.3 yards per carry, and is poised to have a huge senior season.

.....plus, I just noticed the current HC at Linfield is Joseph Smith. That there is some positive karma for the fine young man.

                      Negative Karma:

Former Yankee 3B Scott Brosius is their baseball coach and an alum.*

*Although of all the players on the Yankees incredible late-90s run, Brosius was probably the only one I could tolerate (and maybe Paul O'Neil).
