IMO, there needs to be A LOT more focus in the coming days on McQueery and his inaction.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Not that that is what the focus or concern should be, but I thought it was an interesting point.
If this is the Death Penatly for PSU football, then then it will have been earned over a decade or more of this crap. I used to like PSU as one of my third or fourth favorite team, never again.

The guy took kids to the shower at PSU in 1998 and a mother found out and called the police. He lathered up one of the boys and gave him a naked bear hug. After investigating, the DA decided not to prosecute.

Seriously, don't get this sentiment at all. Why is it sad today? Because joePa was fired? Because he is old dude? Wtf??? What's wrong with some of these media members?

The very same. Paul and I weren't close friends, but we spent some time together. My first intro to him was an excellent article he wrote for The New Era, entitled "Confessions of a Would Be Zone Leader." Unfortunately, the piece has apparently been expunged from the on-line archives.

              • Interesting comment from Chris Fowler in agreement with the decision..."boards like this don't make moral decisions, they make business decisions to protect the brand." I think he's spot on here...I'm still not convinced the board cares more about the victims at this point than it does protecting the image of Penn St...which is pretty damn disturbing.

Maybe I haven't been following closely enough. I know only that he was told a second hand account of witnessing a sex act with a child and that he promptly alerted his superiors of the report. Are there additional facts?
My question is what did he do to cover it up? I guess your allegation is that he should have done more. But that doesn't sound like a cover-up to me. I think there is a lot of mis-directed anger. Saying Joe should have done more than pass along a 2nd hand account of a sex assault to his superiors is one thing. I agree with that. But alleging that he is involved in a cover-up, or blaming him for Sandusky's acts seems absurd to me, lacking additional evidence. But he is the most public figure in all of this...so let's hang him.

Who makes the "moral" decision? Whose role does that lie with? The PSU board made a business decision; the grand jury and criminal jury will make a legal decision.

How far does someone witnessing a child being raped have to go before the police are called, and considering joe thought he had more power than the president and the BOT, shouldnt have that been the point when authorities were notified?

I'd call what sandusky did a few orders of magnitude worse than the cover up, but the cover up is a few orders of magnitude worse than anything at OSU, LSU, SMU or anywhere else. It sickens me that this JoePa, a guy I used to think was a great bastion of Doing It Right(tm), right along with Lavell and some of the others of the coaching greats, did as little as possible and possibly covered shit up. If you area coach and profess to look out for kids' development into men and fathers, then don't you think that logically extends to the kids the lookup to the young men you coach? Mr. Paterno let everyone of his players and fans and fans of college football down. Worse, by far, he failed to stand up for what is right. He failed to lift a finger past the minimum to protect those children. His breech of the trust placed in him is epic and horrific. I would like every mention of Joe Paterno in the record books either removed, or annotated with a asterisk mentioning this breech of trust.

I think he was just speaking to the outrage on both sides of the issue including the students yelling at the board...and, again speaking to the idea of protecting the brand.

Nevermind that his friend continued to work with children as well as within the Penn St program but what the hell, Joe did his part.

It's obvious you don't get it.

I don't understand your response. I think police should be called immediately when such a crime is witnessed. Joe didn't witness the act, so that scenario doesn't apply to him. And what is this about Joe thinking he had more power than those others?
