Actually - no, it doesn't.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostThe cycle has to stop at some point. Most of this has roots in previous abuse inflicted upon the abuser.
There was some research done more than 15 years ago that has led to this misconception. The problem with the research is that it was done in prison with convicted pedophiles - who learned that if they told stories of having been victims themselves people were suddenly much more sympathetic to them as perpetrators.
The reality is that the majority of pedophiles were NOT victims as youth. They'd like you to believe it - so that they can get off the hook.
But in telling that story, it does real child victims a HUGE dis-service. Because it implies that because they have been victims they are now going to turn into perpetrators themselves - they can't help it. And that simply isn't true.
So everyone, purge that from your memory now.

I hadn't thought of it that way. I've heard that so many times in psychology classes over the years, and in the discussions I've had with people that I believed it to be true.Originally posted by Eddie View PostActually - no, it doesn't.

If anyone could be convicted of being a monster, it's that guy. At least he won't hurt any more children.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Good riddance.Originally posted by YOhio View PostBail revoked. He's off to the big house for good.
I do not advocate sexual assault in prisons, but the reality is that he is either facing a lot of it (at least if the stories about child molesters in the clink are true) or a lot of ad-seg.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I wonder if he will be in ad-seg forever. He is too high profile to be left alone to be killed. And there is likely going to be a price on his head from the moment he steps foot in federal prison.
What an incredibly tragic wake left by these events.....scores of children abused and scarred for life, their immediate families in turmoil, their future spouses/children feeling some of the effects of the emotional scarring that results from such abuse, a world class University tarnished, Joe Paterno is dead and his wife is a widowed recluse, Sandusky in prison forever, his wife's life is effectively over and she lives out her time as a pariah, his own own family in ruins....Yikes, no winners in any of this, despite the verdict.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Agreed, both on the ad-seg point and on the reflection. There are no winners here. Justice is no good at healing wounds, at least not completely. And there are some wounds that never completely heal anyway.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI wonder if he will be in ad-seg forever. He is too high profile to be left alone to be killed. As an unrelated third party, the concept of Sandusky in ad-seg for the next 30 years or whatever the rest of his life is does not make me sad at all.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.
