I don't hate Michigan or anything, but I was kind of pulling for Akron to pull it off just because of who they are and how long they've gone without a road win.

I suspect Michigan wins by 3-4 scores against UConn.

Jake Ryan, M's best defender, made his return debut against PSU after tearing his ACL in the spring.

Maybe some of the docs can answer this one: How is it that the coaches know right after the injury to predict he'd be back in only 6 months? Does that mean it was only a partial tear or something? Seems like <9 months is becoming more common but I don't get how they'd predict that unless they were just relying on the guy's determination.

Did he have surgery? If it was only a partial tear then 6 months for healing/rehab seems right. Surgery for ACL tears has gotten much better with shorter recovery times. Some of this is due to technique, some to advances in rehab protocols. It used to be a 1 year recovery but athletes seem to be getting back quicker now.

Yeah he had surgery shortly after the injury. The current coaching regime is very tight about injury info so details are scant. A partial tear would still require surgery, right?

Not necessarily. Tears < 50% without instability may be ok to treat nonoperatively. I believe Taysom Hill had a partial tear. Even though he had surgery, no reconstruction of the ligaments was done (although his wasn't the ACL).

For high performance athletes most people are using a bone-patellar tendon-bone graft (central portion of the patellar tendon with bone blocks from the knee cap and upper tibia on either end). It gives good healing/tissue integration but carries the risk of patellar fracture ( see Jerry Rice ).

Very cool; thanks for the info.

I think Michigan's up to 6 ACL tears in the last year. I find it increasingly unfortunate that our ancestors' saggitally-dominated movements allowed our ACLs to evolve to be significantly weaker than those of other primates.

With a significantly increased prevalence in females.

Yeah I looked into that in the spring a bit and it didn't seem like the reason for this is well understood. Is it just the increased bicondylar/Q angle, do you think?

I haven't done much research on this since I was a resident. I recall some thought being given to the narrower inter condylar notch resulting in pinching of the ACL as being a cause as well.

Jeremy Gallon has 343 yards receiving after 3 quarters, the last 33 coming without a defender within 15 yards of him. Indiana's defense is really bad.

Also, after weeks of the fanbase wishing the OC would quit running isos and powers into stacked fronts like it's 1953, he's really opened things up this game. Coaches aren't always right.

And now Devin Gardner has broken Denard's all-time B10 record for yards in a game.

                          Hoke is out. No surprise.

Maybe they can talk PAC Coach of the Year Rich Rod into coming back.

Hopefully they hire someone from Ohio. The game against the Buckeyes would instantly become really important.

Michigan is like Nebraska. Glorious past, bleak future.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Meh, both schools just need a QB. No different than Texas and Florida. It's not impossible to win without a good quarterback in college football, but it is really difficult. Even LSU sucked this year. Les Miles better find a QB soon or even he'll be gone. Essentially, Gardner got Hoke fired, Driskel got Muschamp fired and Case/Ash got Mack Brown fired.
