1st and goal, Denard Robinson is your QB, you have four plays, and not one of them is a run/pass option. Can't happen. Unacceptable.Originally posted by woot View PostSigh. It's pretty disconcerting how our playcalling goes from genius to terrible when we get behind. Denard has really struggled, but it would also be difficult to come up with playcalling that more precisely exposes Denard's weaknesses.
That review on 2nd down really could have gone either way, and probably should have been a TD, and the throw on 4th down was definitely PI.
But whatever. If you put yourself in a position for the refs to screw you, you can't complain too much. Denard has lost a step in the running game, and just isn't comfortable in this passing game.
We've been overrated all year, so it's not surprising to blow one on the road against a mediocre team, but it would have been fun to make some noise a year or two before the pieces are actually in place.I'm like LeBron James.

I've been fine with that site since I started watching it, however I bet if you don't have AdBlock Plus or an ad blocker, then there's the possibility I guess.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostBe careful with this site. Bad call, agreed.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostNot sure I agree with that call in the OSU Stanford game...
Didn't look like he was targeting or anything. unfortunate that the dude got hurt, but I don't thing that was the right call.
The receiver turned upfield and took 2 steps and could see the approaching tackler -- that was not a defenseless receiver, wasn't a a guy headed over the middle to catch a pass, etc.
No way should that have been a penalty.

It's become, perhaps, the most inconsistently called penalty in football.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostBad call, agreed.

Agreed, although it is true that Denard sucks throwing on the run. Combined with his propensity to throw picks and lack of desire to scramble (he's never been much of a scrambler, despite the popular perception) and I get why they don't do that with him much, even on the goalline.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Post1st and goal, Denard Robinson is your QB, you have four plays, and not one of them is a run/pass option. They did have a TO left, so they really should have run it once. Still, the playcalling on the last series was fine. It got a TD that the replay crew refused, a dropped pass in the endzone, and an obvious PI. If any one of those plays goes the way it should have there's no problem.
The major issue seems to be that they want to protect Denard, and therefore aren't running him much. The QB power is a big part of the offense, and the zone read is extremely effective, but both of those have been basically torn out of the playbook. The "QB oh noes!" (fake QB dive or fake zone read and then hit the seam) still works pretty well, but you can only run that so many times.
Giving the backup QB so many snaps makes sense, as it forces to D to respect Denard's legs without him actually getting the ball, but it also exposes the offense to his inexperience, i.e. the fumbled snap, and the poor timing of the snaps when Denard is in jet motion.
The OC has looked so good using all sorts of unorthodox stuff to maximize his talent, but he's really laid an egg in the two losses, which makes it hard to have too much confidence in this team going forward. It might be that he needs to have an experienced QB making consistently good decisions back there for his erratic playcalling to work. Maybe that'll be Denard next year, but I don't know.

The Riley comparisons are apt to a point, as Denard tries to do too much sometimes in keeping plays alive. He hardly ever scrambles, however, so he's very unlike Riley in that regard.
He's also got a cannon for an arm, unlike Riley. His throwing troubles are a lot more reminiscent of Heaps. He locks onto receivers, tries to zing it into way-too-tight windows, overthrows deep routes, and rarely throws it away.

It happened the same weekend about 3 weeks ago. I have watched games on there as well and haven't had problems. I have been hesitant since this though.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostOh. That's no good. I've used this site a ton. Never got a virus.
