    From a desnews article...

They went three-and-out on their first three series and didn't get a first down until 7:26 was left in the game.

"We slowed down in the second half," acknowledged Whittingham. "We got a little conservative. We didn't execute well and we didn't have very good field position."

"We were trying to be smart with the ball and not have any turnovers," was Hays' explanation.

Once you go into a protect mode, it is difficult to then get back to more aggression offensively if the other team rallies. Foles is not someone that the Ute offense. An go conservative asleep against. I understand what the Utes did in the 2nd half yesterday, that just can't become a team mindset anytime we get a lead.

The crowd was great. The place filled up nicely. The worries about the losing record scaring people away were an overreaction.

I'm not a fan of the blackout, but I might be coming around. It is VERY lame during the day like vs. TCU. Especially when you mix in camo...ugh. But at night with the lights on, it's fun. My kids like it. The fanbase, in general, seems to be a bit more excited. The players like it. I'm coming around to being okay with it so long as it's a night game.

John White is one of my favorite players in the past 10 years.

On that long pass play for the TD, John Hays looked all world. For that one play.

Utah has some talented wide receivers. I think they'd be pretty scary if they had a top notch QB to throw them the ball.

I was surprised that Oregon State didn't look to exploit the edges more. The times they did it, they had some pretty decent success. I'm also surprised they didn't employ those mid level crossing routes that have killed the Utes more during the game. I left the game wondering if the OSU coaching staff had watched any film. They didn't do the things that have hurt the Utes in the past several games.

On that note, on the last drive when we got the interception, the linebackers did in fact step up to defend the crossing route. That was nice to see. I imagine they were back there in coverage because it was late in the game. Oh well. It was good to see someone put a stop to that.

It was a fun atmosphere. The crowd got very loud when OrSU was at the north end of the field with their backs to the NEZ. That was great.
This is what all the anti-uniform whiners from 5-6 years ago have figured out. Kids like the wild uniforms, the changing things up. Funny how at least half of the FBS now has some kind of alternate uni (including blue bloods like Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State) you aren't hearing much from the Paul Lukas types about how awful it is to do anything other than look like a football team in 1955.

That's a killer instinct that we showed in the first half, but lost in the second half. Got to keep it an entire game.
You've clearly forgotten who our quarterback is. Or failed to notice our starting field position in the second half. If you think this team is going to let fly backed inside its own 20, I don't know what to tell you. That's not Kyle's MO, never has been, never will be.

You ask me if I watched the second half. I gotta ask you, have you even watched a game this season with Hays starting at QB?

How many pass plays in the second half? 1 or 2? Nobody can sit on a lead like Chow can*

*well, maybe a certain coach on his rival's field 3 points up in a blinding snowstorm.

This is interesting because on TV it looked really empty.

Also I hope Ute fans found the game on Root Sports NW and didn't have to suffer through Steve Brown it was also in HD.

It almost looked like Kyle wanted to run out the clock for the entire 2nd half.

This is such a sad and pathetic little troll.

I feel almost bad for ya.

Even with our offense... I think we could beat Idaho State.

That's what he said but he also said that they weren't able to move the ball. First half proved that we can move the ball as an offense. Second half proved that the struggles have not passed us completely by. TopUte is right that we are limited by Hays. But, the mindset that propelled the offense in the first half needs to stick for a whole game regardless of field position. We cannot sit on leads against Arizona or UCLA or Wazzou. Can't do it and expect to win.

They announced it and listed it as a sellout crowd, so I guess some people who bought tickets didn't decide to go, it looked pretty full to me, with a few little small empty spots in the corners, and endzone sides.

Our first-half "mindset" was dictated by the good field position we were getting.

                        First half: Own 33, 16, 37, 37, OSU 47, OSU 18, Own 20. Average drive start:Own 40

                        Second half: Own 16, 31, 3, 20, 1, OSU 34. Average drive start: Own 22.

You acknowledge that we're limited by Hays, but you make arguments for play-calling that puts more of a burden on Hays. You're going to need to lower your expectations of this team, not in W-L, but in how we play.

Yeah, we want to be aggressive, score points, etc., but the best drive Utah had last night in the second half was a 6-play, 22-yard drive that netted all of one first down, yet still managed to eat up 4:28 (Fabulous job by Hays of eating clock). We actually threw on third down on this drive, too, but Murphy came up just short. The drive started on our own 14, and after the punt, OSU had it on its own 19.

With a multiple score lead and one of the worst QB situations in the country, how anyone could expect Kyle and the staff to do better -- or different -- is beyond me. Fact is, any drive Utah has with a lead that gets one first down and a long punt is a big plus for this team. Giving the opposition short fields is death.

I could only see about 80% of the seats to get a good idea of how full they were. I looked at each section and made a rough visual estimate of how full it was. I would guess between 70-80% full in what I could see.

Sometimes it's better just to avoid addressing the blatant bullshit from the jealous little troll.

The crowd was late arriving. I have no idea why. The only corner that was not filled in was the MUSS corner and we've re-hashed the reasons why that is. The students cram down towards the front. The U. cannot oversell the section because of the fire codes.

By the start of the 2rd quarter, the place packed. The NE NW and SW corners were filled in. There were a few red seats in the crimson club sections, but they were few and far between. Regardless, those seats were sold.

The demise of Utah attendance because of a 3-4 start was greatly exaggerated.

Upper level west side. The student section was packed in. There were several empty red seats on the east side. I couldn't see the west side as well. Maybe I am bad at estimating.
