That was a fun game.
The crowd was great. The place filled up nicely. The worries about the losing record scaring people away were an overreaction.
I'm not a fan of the blackout, but I might be coming around. It is VERY lame during the day like vs. TCU. Especially when you mix in camo...ugh. But at night with the lights on, it's fun. My kids like it. The fanbase, in general, seems to be a bit more excited. The players like it. I'm coming around to being okay with it so long as it's a night game.
John White is one of my favorite players in the past 10 years.
On that long pass play for the TD, John Hays looked all world. For that one play.
Utah has some talented wide receivers. I think they'd be pretty scary if they had a top notch QB to throw them the ball.
I was surprised that Oregon State didn't look to exploit the edges more. The times they did it, they had some pretty decent success. I'm also surprised they didn't employ those mid level crossing routes that have killed the Utes more during the game. I left the game wondering if the OSU coaching staff had watched any film. They didn't do the things that have hurt the Utes in the past several games.
On that note, on the last drive when we got the interception, the linebackers did in fact step up to defend the crossing route. That was nice to see. I imagine they were back there in coverage because it was late in the game. Oh well. It was good to see someone put a stop to that.
It was a fun atmosphere. The crowd got very loud when OrSU was at the north end of the field with their backs to the NEZ. That was great.

Yep. Strength vs. Strength. I am curious to see if our oline can move the ball on the ground and control the clock. Keep Foles off the field. I like our chance at WSU more than at UA.Originally posted by The Notorious J.I.C. View PostI am also curious to see if we can get a road win in conference this year
Then again, I'm not overly optimistic about either.
The WSU game just seems like a trap game. On the other hand, Oregon State went up there last week and destroyed them. Who knows.
I think getting to a bowl game comes down to beating UCLA and CU at RES.
I'm not nearly as concerned about UCLA at home, in the cold at altitude. Maybe it's because of what I've seen out of them the last two times they've visited the state of Utah.

What are you people smoking?Originally posted by LA Ute View PostYou're dead-on.
BTW, I am still trying to figure out if the Utes are improving on offense, or if they just played an inferior team, or if it is a little of both? The 2nd half O looked a lot like the O of the previous 3 games. But I couldn't watch too closely because I was preparing a lesson for tomorrow.
And what Utah team have you been watching for the last month?
We suck on offense, or at least in the passing game. Do you really think our coaching staff trusts the offense to air it out when our starting field possession in the second half is our own 16, 31, 3, 20, 1 and 14, respectively? Get real already.
In case you haven't noticed -- and it's obvious some of you haven't -- Utah doesn't open ANYTHING up on offense prior to getting a first down.
And here's another thing you probably didn't notice: Utah had 10 consecutive possession in this game that lasted less than two minutes. Three of the four longest drives of those 10? They were 3-and-outs. Imagine what our defense would've been put through if we "put the hammer down" with a QB who can't average better than 4.4 yards per pass play. You'd be bitching about how we throw too much.

To keep Foles off the field, we need a UA coed to give him syphillis. JW4 is a great back, but it's not like we're running triple option. We rely on him too much.Originally posted by The Notorious J.I.C. View PostYep. Strength vs. Strength. I am curious to see if our oline can move the ball on the ground and control the clock. The idea that Hays can match Foles yard for yard, drive for drive, point for point is not only silly, but fatal. Our defense has played lights out in our last two wins, but they'll have to be superhuman to keep Foles in check. We could play great defense and still give up 28 points -- and I'm not confident our offense can get anywhere close to that, much less on the road.

Our secondary is about to get its biggest and baddest test of the year. Criner, Buckner, etc. 4 guys with + 50 yard games against Washington and another with 48. Plus, Foles got dinged and threw 2 late interceptions against Washington in a game Arizona was very much in. I'll take our offense any day over washington's, but we will need to pressure Foles and force some Mis-throws. He's a stud. This game will be a good test. Can't wait to get down there, eat some Mi Niditos and Lindy's burgers and watch some Utah football.

The Cougar ALUMNI in Seattle alone number more than four times greater than the total population of the Palouse. The Cougar fanbase over here makes the games in Qwest Field as much of a home game as playing at Martin Stadium.Originally posted by Top Ute View PostNeutral site, in Seattle. It is akin to byu playing a 'neutral site' game against anybody in the E Center or the Delta Center. And no, I don't care that the Delta Center, E Center and Qwest Field have changed their names.

I'm baffled that we essentially double our season-high point total for a conference game, and people are saying we need more of a killer instinct on offense, or people are actually agreeing with such an assessment.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI'm getting the impression you think I missed something from a game I said I was only able to half-watch.

Did you even watch the second half? Come on dude - going into protect mode that result in numerous 3 and outs or punts is not going to result in wins against arizona UCLA etc. this offense has to learn to keep its foot on the gas pedal for the entire game. That's a killer instinct that we showed in the first half, but lost in the second half. Got to keep it an entire game.Originally posted by Top Ute View PostI'm baffled that we essentially double our season-high point total for a conference game, and people are saying we need more of a killer instinct on offense, or people are actually agreeing with such an assessment.

The second half was typical kyle. Get a big lead and go super conservative just to make sure of the win. Kyle has done that numerous timesOriginally posted by OrangeUte View PostDid you even watch the second half?
