Was that a worst case scenario for our QB situation?

They need to have Jake take off the green jersey and let the defense knock him around in practice to get him ready for game situations.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostThe problem here of course is that working hard in practice isn't going to do a thing. Unfortunately, Heaps is not a gamer and is afraid to get hit. He could be the MJ or Jerry Rice of practice, and it wouldn't mean a thing.

Did I say that?Originally posted by Sizzle View PostSo he has not been working hard in practice? Interesting.
Actually I'll bite. I've heard rumors that Jake didn't work in the summer as hard as he might have. Certainly he had known issues like his inability to throw a touch pass that weren't corrected over the summer. He's regressed in other areas.
Hell yes he needs to work hard in practice. He needs to focus on what's plaguing him at get things in gear. Until he does I'm fine with a quarterback who is outperforming him starting.

I think Doman trusts Riley. As a former QB he understands that games ebb and flow and that mistakes will be made. Going to the run in the second half was not a panic move.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostThe throws he had him make in the 3rd were about as conservative as you could throw. I don't think you can say he had no problem letting him throw. Yes, some of it wa situational, but performance is absolutely part as well.
Also, Heaps hasn't been making those same throws at any point in the game. You will have a valid argument when he starts to do so.

I don't know. If he isn't eligible to play because of the transfer rule than is he eligible to use a redshirt? Seems kind of pointless to do that I guess.Originally posted by jay santos View PostSitting out a season and redshirting would be the same thing right?Last edited by USUC; 10-09-2011, 04:12 PM.

You have five years to play four. When you transfer from one team directly to another you have to sit out a year. Whether or not you call it a redshirt year doesn't matter much. If you're coming home from a mission, you never have to sit out a year because the one year wait was satisfied through the mission. If you never enrolled with the team and changed on your mission, it's technically not even a transfer.Originally posted by USU Coug View PostI don't know. So does that mean he could technically start taking snaps this Spring? Not that i'm advocating that or anything, the last thing this team needs is another freshman starting.Originally posted by jay santos View PostYou have five years to play four. I don't know his situation or when he's enrolled in school. But the minute he's enrolled in school he's eligible to practice. For example, Carlino the UCLA BB recruit was basically practicing with UCLA one week and practicing with BYU the next, though he has to wait a year to be eligible to play in a game.Originally posted by USU Coug View PostSo does that mean he could technically start taking snaps this Spring? Got it. I think he is back in December. I don't much much about him other than he is tall and mobile. The first footage I saw is someone pulling this cheap ass move:Originally posted by jay santos View PostI don't know his situation or when he's enrolled in school. What does the press conference have to do with anything? That is your biggest concern...justifying things to Greg Wrubell?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostGood idea. Bronco's presser this week:
BM: "We are going to go with Heaps this week."
Press: "Are you disappointed with Nelson's play? Hasn't he lead the team to two straight wins?"
BM: "Sure, but there is no way he will win games when we face real competition."
Press: "You don't see any competition on your schedule this year?"
BM: "Nope. Nothing but awful teams left on our schedule and no conference championship to play for. Figured we may as well just throw in the towel and use the rest of the season as a glorified scrimmage to see if we can somehow get Heaps to stop missing his receivers by ten yards on every pass."
Yeah, that should work.
I'm not really concerned with what the coaches would say to the press, but that is just me. Getting him to hit his receivers will take practice. What better way to get practice than against a slew of tomato cans coming into LES.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I don't get this. He was yanked last week. Is there any indication that he is doing anything other than what you describe above? He looked very supportive during the game and he seemed to say the right things during his interviews this week.Originally posted by Shaka View PostRight now Jake is getting a severely needed wake-up call. He needs to shut up, support his teammate who is clearly outperforming him, and work on his game in practice until he gets his stuff together and gets another shot.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
