  • Was that a worst case scenario for our QB situation?

Best case scenario is Riley absolutely proves he is or is not the solution. Unfortunately he ended up right in between, which I think is what a lot of people expected, and in my mind is quite possibly the worst possible outcome for this experiment. As great as he was in the first half, he was pretty bad in the second, and that was a fairly lukewarm performance overall. 219 yards, 3 turnovers, 2 picks, and just inches away from what could have been 4 INTs against what I think was likely the worst team we've faced so far this year.

But he won. And he looked really good in the first half. So now what? You can't bench him after that, and he can keep sliding by for weeks with these types of performances against our schedule. Meanwhile, Jake (who I think a lot of people feel if there is a potential solution at QB on our roster it still lies with him) potentially sits for weeks without taking advantage of the portion of our schedule where he stands to make the most progress with the least amount of pressure.

    Tough call here. Thoughts?
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I don't know a thing about Riley's limitations so I won't say a thing in here. I really liked the game plan tonight, just imagine how much TCU would be scratching their heads trying to defend our screen pass and power run game offense!!!!

We won and we scored 29 points. A lot of long drives. Nelson with 159 pass rating and 65 passing yards. Far cry from worse case scenario.

No kidding. Worst case scenario is he sucks as bad as Heaps.

One of those picks was because Mckay Jacobson is a midget that can't jump. I would still blame Riley for it though it was his fault he threw a jump ball to a midget. The other pick was totally his fault. The other two almost picks were mistakes by other players.

Big difference between Nelson and Heaps.... pocket presence, Riley sticks in there and takes his licks (could lead to interceptions) while Jake jumps all over the place and tries to get rid of the ball as fast as possible (does lead to picks and throwing the ball to his mom in the stands)

Give Heaps 2nd and 2 on almost every set of downs instead of 2nd and 12 and 3rd and 12 and he would've feasted on this abysmal SJSU team. BYU completely and absolutely outmanned SJSU in the trenches and the WRs vs their DBs and this is what we came out with? This what we are building our next 2 years around?

Token comments about saying good thing he didn't suck worse than Heaps or we woulda lost big just shows a lack of any football IQ to see what was going on out on the field today and teams we've played like Texas who have MILES better talent/athleticism at every single position on defense even their backups do.

Dude, after your performance on the board last week you are the LAST person on here that ought to be lecturing anyone about football IQ.

Did they have better talent than Utah State?

I'm glad you're here to spread your wealth of football iq around. All us dummies can't seem to get past things like 3tds and 5 ints and being ranked 110 out of 117 QBs. Please set us straight asshole.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

riley keeping the starting job for this and even next season isn't the worst case scenario, so long as heaps uses his redshirt next year and is patient enough to stick it out. developing some touch and, more importantly, some cajones would make a world of difference. i really like heaps and he's got a hell of an arm, but i'm convinced that he does not have what it takes to lead a division one offense right now. i do hope he gets meaningful reps for the rest of the year though.

Definitely think riley has improved quite a bit in that regard, and jake has definitely regressed. Last year jake showed more patience than riley and appeared more willing to go through reads. He also used to step up in the pocket more last year to buy some time. This year they've pretty much flipped. Jakes one read and get rid of it as quickly as possible is the equivalent of rileys one read and run from the last couple years. And riley has looked much more the part of pocket passer than he has the last couple years.

No. Worst case scenario was The Hypester starting/playing.
