Majerus is a basketball genius. He is still a basketball genius so the was is not appropriate.

I will not disagree. The man will always be The Fat Wizard to me.

I can't understand why his genius won't translate into success at St Louis though. Support from the school and AD and quality of recruits may be part of the reason he is barely over .500 in his tenure there.

Or maybe he's just not a genius, or maybe Andre Miller made him look like a genius, even though Miller didn't come close to receiving the individual awards and recognition that Jimmer did, which is another hit at Coach Maj's fabled geniusosity.
        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I think Majerus was a defensive genius. Offensive side was adequate at best. I think high profile recruits saw that and stayed away. Majerus was good at winning, but with a few exceptions(well, really just Van Horn), no one put up eye opening offensive numbers.

You can do better than this. Give credit where it's due.

He reminds me of a short Ratliff, a gamer. I like how he stands his ground and gets off a good completion just before getting hit. He's only 6'0", I'm told. We'll see what he can do. I'm kind of optimistic.

Whatever happened to Austin Carta-Samuels? I know he was looking to transfer from Wyoming and had Utah on his list? Where did he end up? He seemed to have some ability and not strictly in the spread.

I think the Utes have been burned by being a little too loyal to a QB (as was the case with Brown last year), but now as a member of the Pac 12, I see them continuing to recruit certain positions (QB being one) despite having a commitment from another player.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Is there any way we hire Ludwig back so we can unify the fanbase in the collective chanting of "Fire Ludwig!"?

Michigan fans greet each other with "Go Blue"
                      Auburn Fans with "War Eagle"
                      Utah fans with "Fire Ludwig!"

Taking Josh Grant + nobody to the Sweet 16 finally losing to defending champion and Final Four team UNLV who had Larry Johnson, Stacey Augmon, Greg Anthony, etc.

Triangle and 2 defense against Arizona to pummell by 25 points one of the best teams in the tournament with far inferior athletes (notably WITHOUT KVH).

A record of 10-1 in the 1st round of the tourney. A 17-28 overall record in the tourney.

His record of making do with the available talent and coaching mediocre kids to greatness is indicative of his genius. During the same time he was also considered to be one of the best 'big man' coaches, and he worked with Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaq, and numerous other NBA players as a personal coach in the offseason.

But his truest genius was his ability to drive byu fans absolutely and irrationally batshit crazy.

Austyn C-S transferred to Vanderbilt. Imagine that cultural change: Laramie -> Nashville. Good move for him, I hope he can make it work.

We never learned the danger of overt loyalty to a QB during the Lance Rice era. Hopefully we will find a solution now.

FWIW, ACS had a 3.4-3.5 GPA at Wyoming. He will probably do well at Vandy.

Hays came out of the same JC (Butte Community College) as Ratliff and Aaron Rodgers (Ratliff followed Rogers). Hopefully they left a bit of their magic in their locker.

Frankly, Wynn wasn't all world. What he did was make the right reads and get the offense in a position to succeed (blocking assignments, etc). If Hays can do that, and make a few plays with his feet, I'll be happy.

Boy, this season is going to be interesting.
He is listed at 6-0, 210 on the website. The big board showed those same stats saturday.
