What do they love most about it?

That they are familiar with it and it works.

Dish's DVR and on-screen guide are vastly superior. Also, Dish is cheaper. Otherwise, they are pretty much the same.

This is not helpful. Do you have Dish or DTV? Or neither?

Dish has its ardent supporters, but I strongly prefer DTV. JD Powers ratings give the nod to DTV as well.

Having pieced together information from various sources, it appears the Pac-12 and DirecTV are close to a carriage deal.

Does that mean an agreement in the next few hours … or days … or next week? I’m not sure of the exact timing. And as with any negotiation, last-minute snags are always possible.

But it sure seems like only that — a last-minute snag — will prevent the two sides from reaching a deal prior to the start of the football season.

If/when they do partner up, it won’t take long for the Pac12Nets to begin airing on DirecTV — the groundwork is already being laid for signal transmission, according to sources.


A deal with DirecTV could be the only hope for thousands of Pac-12 fans in at least two major metro areas across the country.

Based on what I’ve heard from readers and info provided by the Pac-12′s channel finder, it appears neither Cox nor Comcast will make the National feed available in Chicago and Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia.

And if the Pac12Nets are not offered on your local cable system, you cannot access them online — even if you have a subscription to Comcast or Cox.

***Because I’m sure some fans will ask, or wonder: I’ve heard nothing about a deal with Dish.
Subscribers to that satellite operator should begin making other provider plans if the Pac12Nets are important to you. Dish has a different business model than DirecTV — sports aren’t nearly as important and, as result, a carriage agreement isn’t nearly as likely.

Bill Reilly on ESPN 700 (The "home" of the Utes) just did a Direct TV plug and stated that the PAC12 network will be on the DTV package.

I haven't seen any more info on that the last couple of days, but Bill sounded very confident and was using it as a point to push a sponsor.

I talked to DTV yesterday and they said that the party line is that there is nothing official yet, but that they can't imagine something wouldn't get done soon. At worst, we'd miss the Northen Colorado game, and then after that 3 of the next 4 are on ESPN or ESPN and by then something will get done.

Surprise Surprise Comcast dragging their feet about putting the channel up in the sports tier outside the footprint. When you call they say "well its coming to your area we just don't know when".

Here's a novel idea. Since the station holder for the "mtn" is no longer in place (channel 716 in my neck of the woods) how about you put it there? Seriously comcast what is the hold up?

Last week, Pac-12 Enterprises announced that InDemand will team with Comcast Media Center to provide an array of technical support, including expansive TV Everywhere and video-on-demand plans for Pac-12 Networks coming out of the gate. It also inked a deal with Ooyala to develop the Pac-12 Digital Network.

Relative to TV Everywhere, InDemand president Bob Benya said there would be no staging of platform rollouts, that Pac-12 Networks from the outset would be "all in" on computers, tablets, connected TVs and smartphones whether on Apple or Android-based operating systems.

"No question it's ambitious," noted Stevenson. "We do expect a few bumps in the road, but it's important to make our services available to subscribers on all platforms.
Working with Ooyala, the Pac-12 Digital Network will enable subscribers of Pac-12 Network distributors to watch live content on connected devices via TV Everywhere authentication, when the services bow Aug. 15. According to the Pac-12, this will mark the first time such technology has been designed alongside the linear network experience at launch

This was in response to the online/tablet/smartphone services and is a quote by the head of Comcast.

The only glitch might be if we're required to purchase online content through one of the networks, i.e., as a subscriber to one of them.
