With jalapeño? I also love buying the Popsicles from those street vendors. They sell crazy flavors like coconut and watermelon. Coconut is my fave.Originally posted by OrangeUte View PostI was in LA this weekend and enjoyed a bacon wrapped dog. I am excited to get another for a second weekend in a row. Delish!Fitter. Happier. Seattle, you ought to jump on a plane and get down here for this game. You can get good seats. (Its's harder when you're buying 45 seats.)“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

I didn't do jalapeño this time. Pretty much everything else, though. My kids got Popsicles and one of them may have had watermelon, not sure. I took my kids to Hollywood blvd. LA is a fun and crazy town.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostWith jalapeño? I also love buying the Popsicles from those street vendors. They sell crazy flavors like coconut and watermelon. I've spent the last hour or so poring over DDD's posts in this thread. I have no idea how I'm going to get anything done between now and Thursday afternoon."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

A few places to try out if you are new to the area. Splurge, Ute fans. That is the point of going on a road trip!
Dress up/pay up:
The Bazaar: very cool molecular gastro joint. Get reservations if you can, might already be too late
http://thebazaar.com/
Mastros: steak with a W Hotel vibe.
http://www.mastrosrestaurants.com/
CUT: steak with a Restaurant of the Year vibe
http://www.wolfgangpuck.com/restaura...ne-dining/3789
Totoraku: Japanese. No website. Doesn't need one.
Pizzeria Mozza: yum. Crowded, call ahead. But very fun place to eat. If you want to get really dolled up, go next door to Osteria Mozza.
http://www.mozzarestaurantgroup.com/
Chaya: An institution. Worth the visit. Try the crazy bananas bananas bananas dessert thing. Delish.

Sushi:
SushiGen

Haru Sushi
http://www.sushigenla.com/
Matsuhisa: wanna blow some serious coin on Restaurant Row? great experience and great food
http://www.nobumatsuhisa.com/
More accessible to the wallet and those that only brought shorts and t shirts:
Phillipe's - The Original: birthplace of the french dip. Order a beef, double dipped, with swiss. If you order anything else, you have gone off the reservation.
http://www.philippes.com/
Komodo: killer fusion tacos. Komodo 2.0, asian chicken, blazin shirmp, java...whatever...all of them are good.
http://komodofood.com/
Chanos: an SC institution, mere blocks from campus. The drive-through window is on the passenger side and you won't understand a word they are saying through the speakers. Chorizo burrito..solid breakfast food. Wash it down with a nice Ole, Bang, or Whip!
http://theoriginalchanos.com/
Langer's Deli: order the pastrami with russian and slaw. #19. Again, anything else and you are off the reservation. Only open through 4PM, so no dinners here.
http://www.langersdeli.com/
Sweet Lady Jane: great dessert place on Melrose. Open relatively late. Triple Berry cake is their mainstay but all of it is good.

A few places that have allegedly slipped over the past year or so, but I used to enjoy. Not sure about now:
Church and State: try the bone marrow
AOC: tapas
Bouchon: distant cousin to the French LaundryFitter. Happier. More Productive.

After living here a bazillion years I still don't know most of those places. But DDD and I both agree that this one's a winner:Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostA few places to try out if you are new to the area. Splurge, Ute fans. That is the point of going on a road trip!

Go there if you can.
For those who want a little local L.A. color and history, The Original Pantry Cafe is fun. It's open 24 hours a day and has been since 1924. Awesome meat loaf! Huge portions! T-shirt and shorts will be fine!“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Thanks DDD. I will write more later. Just got into Modesto and turning in for a few hours sleep. I'll finish driving tomorrow and give more info, but I just have to thank you for this thread. We followed your suggestions to a T and had a great time. My friends were impressed at how much we saw that was "out of the usual tour" such as the basement hallways at Heritage Hall. Excellent. Your thread and suggestions are much appreciated by some tired USC visitors.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostGlad you enjoyed yourself, orangeute.
