While tied to the MWC, we have played in the Vegas Bowl, New Mexico Bowl, Liberty Bowl, and the Motor City Bowl. Why are the helicopter bowl, the POIN, and the whatever the other bowl is any worse? They are all pretty lame bowls.

BYU is awash in a sea of mediocre noise when it comes to bowl games. I don't view it as better or worse.

I'm much more excited about the regular season schedule than I have been in the MWC....we are playing some seriously cool teams along with the same level of trash we usually play. That is going to be great.

I'll take a VEG, POIN, and KFFH, over New Mex, Liberty, AFB, OR MCB. The former a decent destinations.

I agree with you. I am not concerned about the top 12 and all that crap. While in the MWC if BYU went undefeated they would have been in a BCS bowl. If they did not qualify for a BCS bowl they were going to go to a shit bowl. Now if BYU goes undefeated BYU is still going to go to a BCS bowl, if BYU does not go undefeated they will go to a shit bowl. One can do pushups all they want about the top 12 but practically BYU is in the same circumstances it was 1 year ago. The only difference wrt bowl games is BYU is no longer living the law of consecration with a couple of beefy brothers and 5 other little sisters. Those little bitches ate more than their fair share.

I think the BCS is clamping down for a fight and is not going to give up ground for anybody. I don't think even the most naive BYU fan was expecting the BCS to give them Notre Dame access. But I was expecting the BCS to give BYU the same access as the non-AQ teams in a conference. I think BYU was made an example to discourage others thinking about going independent. The BCS and AQ presidents want the status quo. Maybe Shurtleff played a role in the BCS's thinking towards BYU. Regardless, under the current circumstances Bill Hancock and the BCS find themselves, they won't be making any concessions on their own.

I'm calling it right now: BYU shows up to the AFB rocking the desert camo fatigues right off the airplane.

With the new Amon G. Carter I'll take the copter bowl over these others.

I was asked last week if I would be interested in transferring to Waco. This would give me four games this year with reasonable distance. I hate Waco but it might be worth it.

Just the Texas and TCU games would be worth living in Wacko with those SOB Baylor fans.

That was as mild as it comes.

What is the equivalent of an "ALUF" in the BYU world?

As Goat would probably say if it were a Utah fan making equivalent comments: "PULL THE STRING!" :yikes:

So, essentially, BYU went from being automatically qualfied if it was in the top 12 and the highest BCS ranked non-AQ school to being "eligibile" for selection if it was in the top 14?

Even then, you'd think BYU would be a pretty attractive selection so long as there isn't an automatically qualified team hanging out there, i.e. Boise from the MWC. If Boise isn't top 12, and BYU is top 14, I'd think BYU is in.

Definitely not as certain, but probably every bit as likely.

No non-BCS team has ever finished in the top 2 at the end of the regular season. There is no precedent for your statement. Even in 1984, if BYU was released from its Holiday Bowl obligations, it wouldn't have drawn a bid from one of the four major bowls.

BYU was in "consideration" for a BCS bowl in either 2006 or 2007 (help me out here) with two losses Maybe even in both years. To say BYU's bowl outlook falls under the same circumstances today as it did last year is to be in denial. It's not even close.

BYU will never get a BCS bid being ranked anywhere outside the top 8. It can win the perception battle in the national sporting press by saying if it was good enough for Utah and TCU (both of whom never finished below sixth in their BCS years) and Boise, then it should be good enough for BYU. If it's lower than 8th, then the Hawaii argument comes into play, and BYU can't win that perception battle.

I don't understand the need for a bowl tie this early if this was a likely destination for BYU anyway. BYU isn't going undefeated this year so why the urgency on this? Maybe it speaks to Holmoe's lack of confidence that an at-large bowl-eligible BYU team could swing a bowl invitation? I just don't get it right now.
