And here I was going to wish the Utes well today in their basketball game against UNC Ashville. But I'm not sure I want Mormon Red Death to get angry at me.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I for one applaud the restraint of all Buffalo fans for waiting the obligatory 24 hours before piling on. I'm sure they'll be showing up in droves sometime in the next couple hours."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Rest assured I am being sincere when I wish the Utes luck in their basketball game today. Also, best of luck in the Rose, Holiday, Alamo, Sun, or Vegas bowl.Originally posted by Flattop View PostIt's so hard to tell with just the written word whether someone is really being sincere or not.

Coming off a tough rivalry loss, losing out on a shot to win the division, play in the Rose Bowl, maybe looking ahead at talking a little trash to BYU fans....it was all so close, but to have it all come crashing down against the worst team in the conference...that has to hurt. What better time to show some sportsmanship with some well wishes?

Even with a win yesterday the Rose bowl was the longest of long shots.
The worst team in the Pac-12 might be bowl eligible with BYU's schedule.Col. Klink: "Staff officers are so clever."

Why would you question my sincerity? What have I said that is inaccurate? The Ute season started with a lot of hope. There was hope of a Rose Bowl berth. There was a strong desire to upstage BYU. What better story than to go to the Rose Bowl and play in the PAC championship game, right? Probably would have infuriated BYU fans. At the start of the season, Utah looked really shaky. Fans lost hope. All looked lost. Then, Utah started playing the weaker part of the schedule and hope started to build. Was it a false hope? I can't say. Who knows, really? But the hope built, nonetheless. Weak team after weak team until Utah was actually in a position to play for the division title. It seemed like destiny...the final game at home against the worst team in the conference. Talk all week about the new rivalry, talk all week about playing for something....something big on the line. Talk all week about how bad Colorado was, how Whit should be coach of the year. And then the game began and Colorado dominated the entire thing. The collective Ute fanbase comes crashing down. There was obvious anger and frustration. The foibles of the basketball team only exacerbating an already frustrating situation. Probably some understandable embarrassment after all the Rose Bowl talk and BYU trash talk to wind up playing in either the Sun Bowl or possibly back in the Vegas Bowl. And now that the season is over, Utah basketball is playing again tonight, possibly going to lose (I personally don't hope so, but it is definitely a possibility). So today we predictably see the ex post facto messages about moral victories, much like after losing to Notre Dame last season.Originally posted by Flattop View PostIt's comments like these that lead people to question your sincerity.

Anyhow, all of this would be very frustrating. Understandably so. I don't blame Ute fans one bit for being angry, maybe embarrassed, frustrated, short tempered, etc. I am simply trying to fly under the radar, wishing Utes well. It is the sporting thing to do. This has been a tough football season for the Utes (although it really shouldnt be. In fact, I think I predicted 7-6, as did many other folks here, including Utes). The basketball season will likely be epically bad.
Right now, Ute fans need support. They do not need trash talking or teasing. Which is why I have spent the better part of the week trying to take the high road in all of this. I wish the Utes well in the Vegas Bowl or the Sun Bowl. I also wish the basketball team well this season. I think the expectation around here is that the Utes win 5-10 games. I really am pulling for them to do just that.
I'm sorry if my sportsmanship offends some of you here but I will continue to strive for class over inflammatory dialogue. I will seek out and travel the high road.
Best of luck, Utes. And before all my fellow Cougar fans jump all over me for being supportive towards the Utes, let me save you the trouble: I don't care. If you had any class, you all would be doing the same thing...wishing the Utes the best of luck in the Vegas Bowl as the 5th place PAC team (I think?) and showing sympathy for such a difficult weekend.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
