I don't think the honor code office is racist in the least. I think the fact that more minorities are busted than not has more to do with religion and upbringing than with race....

Yes, there are white athletes that get away with HC violations, but I'm sure there were black athletes that got away with violations as well.

I didn't notice at first, but Darron Smith is one of the co-authors. I can't believe they bought the Kessman family line about the Starbucks.

A common theme among the former players seems to be deceit during the recruiting process. If you get taken to a party that has drinking and sex obviously you're not gonna think the honor code is serious.

I don't know how much that has changed under Bronco. The number of black football players has decreased drastically, as Deadspin noted.

This is the focus of CB discussions. The article, according to them, is crap because of the author and his "axe to grind"

oh, you mean bronco didn't return your message about the "little nazi interrogation?" i can't imagine why. by the way, o'neill can suck it. nowhere was it mentioned that he terrorized his quarterback and showed a blatant lack of respect for his coaching staff. i guess as long as he's not fumbling in the red zone or muffing punts i don't really give a shit why he was kicked out of school. i look forward to seeing #4 standing scholarship-less on the sidelines next year.

idiotic article by a couple of schlubs who think they know everything after interviewing half a dozen scrubs and reading some message boards.

This is great you have former ex-athletes all kicked out because they broke the honor code (which they are freely admitting) and an article written by a former professor who was fired by the University. Yet somehow this is supposed to be credible?

i didn't see anyone that wasn't interviewed who wasn't a scrub. did i miss anyone?

by the way, i'm not sure why the idea that non-white athletes engage in a disparate number of honor code violations is racist. i'm sure i'll be enlightened shortly, though.

They've done a very thorough job of researching and writing about one side of the issue. (then again, if you want to stop people from grinding axes against you, stop handing them axes.)

I had some issues with their recitation (and clearly a lack of) the facts, but when they pass along the Kessman story, any remaining credibility vanished. The problem here is that if BYU were to provide all of the facts behind each case, the redemptive effect would be more than offset by accusations of character assassination and disregard for a person's privacy. So we take our lumps and move on. Good thing that people like Davies and Chambers are so far under the hypnotic spell of BYU leadership and threats of reprisals that they stick around despite the horrors inflicted upon them. I'm sure the authors believe there can be no other explanation.
