Welcome fellow Mississippian. What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Thanks oxfordreb. Appreciate the tips.Originally posted by OxfordReb View Postand the motel options are limited, but there are several houses and condos with vacancies for football weekends. The Oxford square on a football friday is really something to see. The square has some great restaraunts and bars. I hope y'all enjoy Oxford. And I also hope that the humidity wears the Cougars down.
The square, the grove and stadium are all easy walks from several condos with openings
Led by Chef John Currence, City Grocery Restaurant Group operates City Grocery, Boure, Snackbar and Big Bad Breakfast in Oxford, MS.
Chef John Currence is a James Beard Award winner
Chef Wiley Morris delivers pregame meals to the grove
Ajax Diner has fantastic southern food
Don't miss Faulkner's house
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Larry Hipps. See *** at the bottom of the History section below
Taylor Grocery has the best catfish in Mississippi
There will be live music on the square at Proud Larrys, Parrish's, Rooster's Blues House, Soulshine Pizza Factory, Taylor's Pub, Two Stick, Blind Pig, The Lyric, Rib Cage, Ajax, Taylor Grocery and possibly some other places.
A few questions:
Is it common for out of towners to rent condos and such or do people just stay in Memphis and drive down? Will there be any pre game vibe in Memphis or is that too far?
Is there enough to see and do on Friday to merit coming a day earlier? As you may have surmised, many of the BYU faithful are not big drinkers but we can still appreciate a spirited tailgate. What sort of school stuff happens on Friday night? Band performance? Pep rally? Etc?
Do visiting fans get into the Ole Miss spirit by dressing up in their own school colored coat and tie for The Grove tailgate or the game itself? Is that uncommon?
What is ticket scalping like on game day? Pretty easy to find tickets? What is the markup?Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

A few questions:
Sorry that it has taken me so long to respond.
Is it common for out of towners to rent condos and such or do people just stay in Memphis and drive down? Will there be any pre game vibe in Memphis or is that too far? It is very common for out of towners to rent condos or houses. Most Ole Miss fans are "out of towners" too. And there will be no pregame vibe in Memphis.
Is there enough to see and do on Friday to merit coming a day earlier? As you may have surmised, many of the BYU faithful are not big drinkers but we can still appreciate a spirited tailgate. What sort of school stuff happens on Friday night? Band performance? Pep rally? Etc? There are 26 bars and restaraunts on the Oxford Square. 10 or so of those places will have live music. Music is a huge part of our culture and identity in Mississippi. There is live music on the courthouse lawn on Fridays. The nation's largest independent bookstore is on the square. It's called Square Books and it is a wonderful place. Thacker Mountain Radio broadcasts live from there on Thursdays. OffSquare Books & Square Books Jr. are also located on the square. There are places on the square like Ya Ya's Yogurt & Holli's Sweet Tooth that you just can't find on Beale Street. Memphis is not very kid friendly or pedestrian freindly. Faulkner's house is a short walk from the square.
Do visiting fans get into the Ole Miss spirit by dressing up in their own school colored coat and tie for The Grove tailgate or the game itself? Is that uncommon? The only people wearing coats and ties will be fraternity pledges. The heat is unbearable in September. I'll be wearing shorts. The grove is within walking distance of the square and most of the condos are on the square. I would stay in Oxford just to avoid gameday traffic.
What is ticket scalping like on game day? Pretty easy to find tickets? What is the markup? Considering that the Rebs were 4-8 last year, tickets should be easy to find. Tickets in the visiting section are usually abundant on stubhub for non conference games. But, waiting until gameday shouldn't be a problem. I would wait as close to kickoff as possible to buy and wouldn't pay over face value.
How many fans do you expect BYU to bring?

If the rumors are true and Ole Miss has to rely on some JC transfers in the secondary, the Cougars could be in for a great day. Our big OL and theif iffy secondary could make for a balanced attack, and that often makes for a BYU win.
I'm officially jonesing for football to start. We all trust our own unorthodoxies.

Not sure how many fans will come but I would guess between 5-10K. Does that sound reasonable?

I'm bringing a friend and meeting two other friends from SLC. That makes 7.Originally posted by HBCoug View PostWell, I'm going with two others. The game still worries me. They have a great O-line and a good RB . They have recruited somewhat well and still have some decent SEC talent. My guess is that it isn't a barn burner.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostOld Ms. picked to finished dead last in SEC West

I disagree. Memphis has a nice children's museum and a fabulous zoo. If you bring your kids and stay in Memphis, there will be things to keep your family busy. It's not all Graceland and Beale Street.Originally posted by OxfordReb View PostA few questions:

Already seeing early ticket action online. North end zones seem to be in abundance and are currently going for about $35 each. Looks like this one is going to be a cheap ticket :rockon1:Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
