Are you bailing? Sounds like you're bailing.

      wtf?

The only "bailing" I'm doing that weekend is on my wife. And my children. And church.

In looking at my flight options, this is going to be tough. SWA doesn't appear to go to MEM at all and UAL requires a connection, so my options are limited.

Also, where are people staying while in town? It looks like a whole lotta Hampton Inn-level digs. I wouldnt be surprised if lots of places had outdoor access doors

For those that purchased flights, what is the range right now?
I will be at at either this or the UT game. Maybe both. For now, I am planning on going, but I am driving, not flying, so I can't help you there. I will not know where I'm staying until I figure out who I am going with. My normal BYU travel partner has moved away, and my son will be gone at college, so I need to find someone else to go with me. I may bring my 6 year old daughter to start initiating her.

First, I'm shocked that you would fly SWA. Second, no way you stay at a Hampton Inn. Heck, I won't do it any you're way more white bread than me. Fly UAL into Austin and road trip with me. There has to be a decent hotel with a couple of rooms somewhere in Mississippi.

What's wrong with Hampton Inns? I like Hampton Inns.

Wow, you weren't kidding about the hotels. Orbitz lists a Holiday Inn as a 4 star.

Ok, I maybe bailing now also.

One of my sisters works for SWA so it works better depending on the destination or when I want to have 3 layovers on a cross country flight.

I have no plans right now to stay at Hampton Inn. There are a few B&Bs in Oxford that look interesting but unless you are traveling with a woman, only members of the Army of Helaman stay at B&Bs. Truthfully there are few options in that town.

How long is the drive from Austin? I'm flying there the following Friday so that seems like a lot of Austin in a 7 day period.

Right now my best bet is UAL to Memphis. Getting there will be easy. Leaving on Sunday will be a PITA.

Might be time to check Delta flights, but Im guessing those will cost $500 or so.

                  Nothing. They're great motels.

My brother has found flights for $280, but I'm holding off until I know for sure what my wife will be up against this summer/fall.

EDIT: My mistake. The $280 flight was for Austin, not the Ole Miss game.

Well, take heart! Eventually you guys will be in the Big 12 and enjoy all the amenities that world-class venues like Ames, Stillwater, and Lawrence have to offer.

There is the Downtown Oxford Inn, but closer inspection of the photos appears that it is an outdoor access motel with strategically angled photographs, giving the illusion of a B&B. There is also The Inn at Ole Miss, which looks ok and also has a placed called the "Triplett Lobby."

Finally, there is the Ole Miss Motel.

Local landmark welcoming friendly travelers since the 1970’s. Conveniently located - 5 minute walk to downtown Square & 15 minute stroll to the Ole Miss Grove.

Their website would generously be called "spartan." This is the only photo available

Ugh. Maybe I will stay in Memphis. 85 miles or so, but they have some nice places and things to do over Labor Day weekend. Maybe I will see if Graceland will show me the Book of Mormon Elvis used.

I am going to call up my friend Leigh Ann Touhy and see if I can use their second home for that weekend.

Southwest flies to Jackson and to Little Rock. I would stay in Memphis.

What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.
