A big loss for the Rebels defense. As is usually the case with OCC opponents, sans Utah, I always want BYU to beat them, then for the team to beat the rest of their opponents. I imagine Ole Miss being near the bottom of the SEC this year.

Friday's Ole Miss practice ended 20 minutes earlier than planned because coach Houston Nutt said he got sick of looking at all the mistakes. Saturday's scrimmage, the Rebels' second of three this spring, ended with players running sprints.

Huge blow: Ole Miss loses Shackelford to ACL injury

Posted by John Taylor on April 12, 2011, 12:26 PM EDT
Getty ImagesUnfortunately for the Ole Miss football program, there was a very good reason why there wasn’t a lot of optimism when it came to D.T. Shackelford‘s injury.
By way of KYLE VEAZEY of the JACKSON CLARION-LEDGER (remembered this time, Kyle), the Rebels have confirmed early this afternoon that the junior linebacker has been diagnosed with a torn ACL.
As a result of the injury, Shackelford will be sidelined for 6-8 months. The optimistic end of that prognosis would have him back in October, while the less optimistic timeline would, in essence, end his 2011 season before it even started.

As it turns out, the stork has thrown a wrench (a lovely, darling wrench, i'm sure) into our plans, and it just won't be possible.
BYU is playing UT Dallas?? Who woulda thunk it

A Rush fan would have never made this sort of mistake

Dammmn. That's painful. Actually makes me unhappy both (a) because you're right that Shackleford was a key to Ole Miss's respectability this year and (b) because I hate seeing kids - esp ones with legit shots at making the next level - go down like that.

You really should. The scenery, umm..............at the golf courses (yeah, that's the ticket).............is worth the trip.

On the off chance that you're actually asking about golf courses, we stayed up in Tunica and played a couple courses there: Riverbend was sort of meh. Grand-Cottonwoods was nice. We also played a place called Mallard Pointe in Sardis, MS on game day before heading to The Grove. Its pretty close to Oxford (about 22 miles west) and was the best of the three we played. Tough with lots of trees, wooded draws and blind approaches.

                    Tomorrow is Saturday

Ole Miss seems to be a bit of a mess right now

Arrested development: starting LB among pair of players dismissed by Ole Miss

Three days after being indefinitely suspended from Ole Miss following yet another off-field incident, linebacker Clarence Jackson and defensive lineman Delvin Jones have been permanently banished from the football program.

I can't tell you people how jealous I am that you guys all just travel to whatever away games and bowls you want. I never went to a single away game until this year, and even that was just Baylor.

The family of the late Bennie Abram filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Ole Miss and 28 other parties today, alleging that the school didn’t follow guidelines when Abram, a walk-on football player, died during conditioning drills at the school’s indoor practice facility on Feb. 19, 2010. An autopsy report said sickle cell trait contributed to his death.

I think anyone there would attest that it was hardly an away game. Ha!

No, but seriously, I've made it down I-35 for a blue river and three red river shootouts, but that's not the same as going to South Bend or Madison and seeing how another school rocks a home-game weekend.

                                Updated roll call.

In looking at my flight options, this is going to be tough. SWA doesn't appear to go to MEM at all and UAL requires a connection, so my options are limited.

Also, where are people staying while in town? It looks like a whole lotta Hampton Inn-level digs. I wouldnt be surprised if lots of places had outdoor access doors

For those that purchased flights, what is the range right now?
