So, Chow is an upgrade over Schramrod, and when he leaves, Utah will get better. Sounds like a win-win.Col. Klink: "Staff officers are so clever."
Gen. Burkhalter: "Klink, I am a staff officer."
Col. Klink: "I didn't mean you sir, you're not clever."

I dont like the Chow hire either. I think hiring him was a conservative move to minimize risk, but it also limits how high the utes can go. So yeah, they wont have terrible flops on offense, but neither will they put together anything innovative.

It's an upgrade over an offensive coordinator team that was in over its head, IMO. So I'll take it.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostI dont like the Chow hire either. Was it the same team that came up with the 2008 Sugarbowl offensive strategy? Was that Scramm or Rod or someone else?Originally posted by LA Ute View PostIt's an upgrade over an offensive coordinator team that was in over its head, IMO. So I'll take it.

I saw them struggle last year."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

Good point, and I don't have a good answer. [EDIT: Jarid points out that Ludwig was the Sugar Bowl OC.] The offensive dropoff after Iowa State had everyone puzzled. There are many theories as to what happened, probably all with some shred of truth to them: Wynn hid the extent of his injury, the competition got better, and others. One interesting theory I heard recently was that opponents also figured out the Utah offense and our coaches, for whatever reason, were stalled and didn't develop any wrinkles. In the TCU game (in addition to Utah being overmatched, talent-wise) TCU almost seemed to know what we were going to do before we did it, and knew how to stop it. Same with Notre Dame. So my guess is that Kyle decided he needed a more experienced hand at the helm. That Chow knows the PAC-10 is an added bonus.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostWas it the same team that came up with the 2008 Sugarbowl offensive strategy? What could Kyle have done (to fix the offense) that was better than hiring Chow?Last edited by LA Ute; 05-14-2011, 11:23 AM.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”
