I mean, we are talking about a team that until Friday hadn't won a game outside of their home state, aren't we? And it isn't like this is a new season and they are greatly improved. They finally broke their 4 year streak during the last game of the year!


OK - that was me running some smack, I admit it. The rest of this is as sincere as I get:

I owe you guys one. At times I get to feeling like Utah seems to always get up for games and play well. Even in a loss, Utah rarely blown out. When BYU is favored, Utah still makes it a game and wins their share. Meanwhile, BYU struggles at times and has made getting blown out an annual affair to at least one team or another. BYU seems as likely to lose as win when favored against the U. So I appreciate seeing that your team has struggles too. It keeps me sane.

The Pac-12 is the third strongest conference in the country, behind the Big-12 and SEC (in that order).

Colorado won a national championship in 1990 by beating 9-2 Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. They also have a top-10 finish in the last 10 years. And don't forget that Washington State has three top-10 finishes in the last 10 years. What is the highest finish UNLV and New Mexico have had in their histories?

It's just part of sports. There are just going to be games when you watch your team play and wonder who kidnapped the real players and where they are being held captive. The first half of the CU game was like that. It was baffling.

Actually yeah Colorado and Washington State are historically New Mexico and UNLV bad.

Washington was 0-11 just two years ago.

Arizona and Oregon State were terrible this year.

4 Pac-12 coaches have already been fired with possibly more still to come.

Say what you want but it was a bad year for the Pac-12 and maybe Utah had a down year too but going 7-5 during a down year for the Pac does not bode well for the future.

Don't forget that 0-12 Washington team would have been 1-11 if not for the stupid Celebration penalty.

WSU went to TWO Rose Bowls barely over a decade ago. Then they committed Program Suicide at the same time Boise started pushing hard to build a program (draining recruits who historically went to WSU).

Colorado was fairly strong historically. They won a MNC in 1990 (and still would have beat Mizzou without 5 downs, because the play that scored on 5th down would have run on 4th down rather than the spike). Then in the 90s they committed program suicide, aided by some bad events. Then they built it back up, and even won the Big 12 championship game in 2001 (although Nebraska went to the BCS Championship game). Besides that, it is not fair to blame a first year coach for the failures of the team over the previous 3 seasons.

The talent level, particularly of the backups, at all schools in the PAC IS quite a bit higher than in the WAC or in the MWC (outside of TCU/BSU/BYU/UTAH). This stands to reason: how many athletes turn down a scholarship at Oregon State, WSU, Arizona, or UCLA to play at Idaho, UNLV, UTEP, or New Mexico? The bigger conference schools attract a higher caliber of athlete. Utah needs to work hard to catch up.

I stand by my statement. This 3-9 Copper team would have won at least 7-8 games in the MWC this year. They would have put up 70 on UNLV and New Mexico, 40+ on Wyoming, and walked away from all but SDSU, AFA, TCU, and Boise. And SDSU and AFA would have been toss-up games.

Beating Nebraska, Iowa State, Texas, Oklahoma State, Mizzou, West Virginia, A&M, Florida State, Kansas, Alabama, Arizona State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Baylor, etc is harder than it looks. Those are the teams who beat CU over the last several years.

It is not as though they lost to Idaho, New Mexico State, or Ole Miss.

Boise didn't hang 40+ on Wyoming. Wyoming actually finished 7-4 this year. Oh and Colorado lost to Hawaii who lost to UNLV.

Since that historic run to the Big 12 championship 10 years ago Northwest ute fan is right Colorado has not lost to UNLV or New Mexico not one time. But they have lost to:

Colorado State: 4 times
Hawaii
Fresno State
Washington State: 2 times
Toledo
Montana State.


Yep nothing but victims of tough scheduling.

And ASU beat USC, Arizona and UCLA beat ASU, and Utah beat Arizona and UCLA. UCLA beat CAL, Cal beat Utah and ASU. It goes round and round.
