That's them. All the guys wore them. I thought they were the coolest shoes ever. Funny how Kmart used to be the it store for kicks. You could get the MacGregor's and Trax shoes there. Also, I remember eating lunch in the cafeteria at our Kmart.

We played Timpview my senior year and I was playing D-tackle. They ran a WR screen to the left and I sprinted out to try and take away the cut back when I was blindsided by one of their lineman. I did a semi-flip and landed on my head. Hardest I have ever been hit in my life.

During film review the coaches kept rewinding it and literally watched it 20 times. The last week of the school year we had a senior night thing and they showed a video of highlights throughout the year and me getting pasted showed up on it.

Don't forget his abilities as a return man.

He makes me feel the way I did when James Dye was running back kicks. He could bust one everytime he touches it.

Our QB got lit up one play from his blindside by a CB blitzing. Our RB was in pass protect and completely whiffed on the block. Our QB looked like a bow and the CB hitting him an arrow. He got the pass off but it was a duck and essentially a jump ball. The intended WR jumped for it and got lit up by the safety from behind knocking the ball loose. Our coaches played that thing over and over. Then at practice forced the RB who missed the block and the rest of us linemen (somehow we were at fault too) each take a blindside shot in the back so we would know what it felt like. We stood there while a defensive player got ten yards to plant their helmets in our backs. The defensive players hitting us though went easy. My coach was an asshole. I think on some level what he did that day was probably criminal. It was also incredibly dumb and he was fortunate that nobody got hurt.

Reminds me of our coach who after losing to Payson in a complete blizzard the next monday in practice he had us in full pads with about 8 inches of snow on the ground and he had us run 40s. Practice started after school at 3:30 we ran non-stop no water breaks, no nothing. With there and back being 1 a few kids who were hurt and sitting out counted and we ran ninety 40s. Most miserable day of my life.

Nope. I love Hoffman but Dye had a North/South running style coupled with an "advanced field vision" that has been unparalleled in Provo. Hoffman is in the Chambers mode IMO but I do think he doesn't wait for the hit like Chambers did.

Similar thing happened after that Mammoth game. Because it was like 4 hours away, we left Friday noon and did some dinner with their team. We spent the night in their huge weight room in sleeping bags. The next morning we had a breakfast before the game. Anyway, the cheerleaders made the trip to. All kinds of debauchery occurred. Guys were talking back to the chaperons, namely the booster president. So when we got back into town on Monday the coaches were pissed. They were upset that we lost (despite being all freshman and sophs to a varsity squad) and for everything else that happened. In fact they had a list and for each item on the list we run 220s, though we called them sprint laps. We'd line up on the goal line run around the goal post at the other end and back across the goal line. At the start of each practice we ran one that was timed. And whenever we messed up we had to run a sprint lap and beat the first time. If we didn't beat the time it didn't count and we lined up again. Anyway, we had to run a sprint lap for every item on the list. I think there was like 17 things. That day sucked. One of the laps was for my buddy Robby eating all of the sausages at breakfast and not leaving any for the coach. That one got a good chuckle out of everyone and we consequently had to run another.

My embarrassing film moments came from two punt returns my Junior year. The first one we were playing our rival, and we had a really fast AA WR (who later ran track and played football at Weber St.) who was pretty good in the return game. On returns our coaches had me play about halfway between the line and the returner so I could either field short punts, and if they went back to the returner, to clean up the first guy and give our returner some space. In the first half, we stopped them defensively, they punted and it was a decent kick going over my head to our return guy. So I turned and ran the 3-5 steps back to make sure he fielded the punt okay, and turned upfield to set the block. The first guy down was Colby Buckwoldt, so I set up ready to throw the first block and give our returner some room. You didn't see the collision on the film, but since he had a head of steam and since I wasn't really set, about two seconds later you see #36 flying about 6 yards across the screen looking like he's doing gymnastics tumbling rolling down the field. I got absolutely lit up and flew. Of course, it was a decent enough return so it was on the highlight films, but I got blown up.

The second was on another return where you couldn't make out my number (thankfully) but where I got caught with one of the worst clips in probably the history of football. I sprung the guy for a 40+ yard return that was called back that wouldn't have happened if I didn't clip the guy, but the coaches were not very happy about that one.

Is Austin Pettis the upside for Cody Hoffman? Good frame, not blazing fast uses his frame well.

Not a bad example. At least you know he will score.

Any updated thoughts on the Hoff? I know there's going to be the competition argument, but the dude is really coming on this year. Right now he's got a solid shot at 1,000 receiving yards. He's big, uses his body well, and always goes up and gets the ball at its highest point (something Apo needs to desperately learn). He's also caught a ton of balls this year that he had no business coming up with and has shown some pretty solid bursts of speed and ability to make a guy or two miss in the open field. I've been pretty impressed.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

With the possible exception of Alisa, his progress has been the most pleasant surprise this year (amid several unpleasant surprises). He's a fun player to watch.

I agree. Hoff and KVN are well on their way to becoming all-time BYU greats. Weird to think that Hoffman was pretty much nonexistent for the Miss and Texas games.

That's because Hoff is a lazy ass and it took 4 games for him to get into game shape.
