speaking of silliness, one past uni trend that I would like to see brought back, at least for one or two games.....the old cutoff mesh football jerseys with the longer, baggy sleeves. Maybe even throw in some of those old school turf cleats with the tiny rubber nubs on the bottom. Those were cool, too.
I present you with the poster child of the cut off mesh jersey. Chris Zorich.

I remember having to search around town for those to play intramural football. You had to have a minimum number of nubs on the bottoms. Supposedly it was to avoid tearing up the fields. Not sure who got that idea into their heads.
If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

Im trying to find some pics of them but no luck. For some reason, i always associated them with the Houston Oilers back in my youth, although I know everyone wore them.

I'm also having a similar poor luck finding a picture of former BYU receiver Kelly Smith sporting similar attire. He is the first one who comes to mind when I think of the old cut off jerseys.

I remember similar cleats by MacGregor were all the rage when I was in elementary school. The only place to buy them was Kmart.

Totally. MacGregor was the key brand. Nike also made some that were popular. The key to those shoes (in addition to the nubs), was the golf-like tongue flap on the top of the laces. You had to have as much tongue as possible!

with long colored laces hanging out past the tongue. For basketball in Jr. High I always had one color lace in one shoe another color in the other. The 80s were a fashion apocalypse.

Vintage 80s sneaks would command top dollar these days, esp in boutique shops. There are several in SoCal that I loved to frequent. There also used to be a good one in SF in the Haight. Are there any in SLC?
I would definitely buy a pair of MacGregors for my son to rock. Those would be sweet.
Wearing sleeves in football was always interesting to me. I never wore them except for my freshman year we played College Park in Concord, CA. College Park played at the local community college (DVC) and the field was astro turf. Falling and hitting the ground on that field was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. My whole body was full of basically rug burns. My sleeves were shredded by the end of the first quarter but for some reason mentally I thought that because I had them on it would not hurt as bad to slide across that turf.

I can't understand how anybody could have played football full time on Astroturf. The Fieldturf is a huge step up, though you still get burns if you fall wrong on it.

I wore sleeves and tights once. When I was JV we played Mammoth HS's varsity team. It was their homecoming game played at Noon on a Saturday. It was so bloody cold I remember I couldn't think straight. I remember we ran a screen. The play was called to the left. But I peel off to the right and look around to find myself all alone. That was embarrassing in film review.
