  • I was just listening to Dan Patrick's fill-in (can't remember his name - Kevin something). He was giving major props to TCU and felt that they would hang with Auburn, especially since they took on Wisconsin's powerful running game and still came out the victor. Too bad we will never know.
But let's play the "what if" game. What if TCU played Auburn? Frankly, I think TCU would win 6 of 10 times. TCU has a strong O line (Oregon did not). And Little Orphan Andy looked to me to be every bit the QB that Cam Newton did, at least comparing their bowl performances.
Further "what if" - What if 2010 TCU played 2008 Utah? Gotta give that one to TCU, pretty much hands down.

      Oh, no question about it.

Utah had to play an Alabama team that spent 5 weeks at #1 300 miles from their campus. They won by 14. Alabama's 2 losses came against the team that won a BCS title (Florida) and Utah, who finished #2 in the AP Poll and #4 in the Coaches Poll.

TCU had to play Wisconsin on a true neutral site that was 500 miles closer to Fort Worth than Madison. They won by 2. The highest the Badgers reached in the rankings was #4, finishing 7th in the AP and 8th in the coaches poll. Wisconsin's two losses came against Michigan St (which finished 14th in both polls) and TCU (who finished 2nd in both polls).

2008 Utah had 3 wins over teams that finished in the BCS top 30, while TCU had 2. Utah's SOS (56) was better than TCU's (80, but that doesn't include bowl games).

Utah received 17 first-place votes in the polls (16 AP, 1 coaches). TCU received 4 (3 AP, 1 coaches).

        I'll still take Utah.

Alabama didn't even want to be there!

Nice summary even if it didn't make a difference to Mr. McClain. The hard facts don't lie, but hatred always clouds objectivity. And to think how much more the University of Utah has done for Mr. McClain personally than BYU ever has.
