Ha! I actually thought the same thing after that quote. Most would brush that comment off as a figure of speech and probably was, but I know that image of Bronco praying to know which QB was true has to tickle some people."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

I just noticed that despite throwing for about twice the yards Detmer did as a freshman, Heaps would still have to average more yards per year over the next three years than Hall or Beck threw for in their best years to surpass Detmers career yards mark. Heaps would still need over 4,100 yards per year to pass Detmer. Considering that only 6 seasons have been over 4,000 yards (Detmer 3x, Jimmy Mac, Bosco, and Sark). Unless the offense changes dramatically, I don't think it's likely Heaps breaks Detmers record.

I shouldn't be reading through this thread or bumping it, but Viking has asked me to grieve and get over this, so here I am grieving. This thing is absolutely depressing to read through, and it was before even the bowl game, which was arguably Jake's best performance of his entire frosh season.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostMy concern with Anae leaving rests solely with Heaps' continuity. I thought part of the reason John Beck took so long to develop and reach his potential was due to the consistent coaching turnover. I think there is strength in consistency - especially at the QB position and that position is so important in football today and perhaps at BYU even moreso.
Anyway, a whole bunch of things contributed to this situation being a complete clusterfuck, but 'Napper had a gut feeling here, and I think he was right. Of all the potential factors that contributed to Heaps demise, and there are many, I think the coordinator change was the biggest for a variety of reasons. All the stuff that people railed on Heaps for this year were clearly not evident last year, as most of the comments here seem to acknowledge. A lot of things changed for the kid, but to me the coordinator was the most noteworthy. And yes, I see the irony in all of this.
Bummer. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

It sure is interesting to read my posts in this thread about Heaps and then to see how I turned on him this season. You really have to look like garbage to lose me like that. Bottom line, I'm a fan of BYU, not any one player and if there is a player that is hurting BYU's chances of winning games, I want him the hell out of there. But enough patting myself on the back...
I also tend to agree with Grace and ultimately GN about Heaps losing Anae and having with a former option QB who was clueless early in the season. I said in a post eary in this thread, just after the ute game:
I can't imagine the same player I said that about turned into the guy we saw this season. Doman certainly didn't do Heaps any favors by being so pathetic early in the season.I don't worry about Heaps - not even a little bit.I'm like LeBron James.

Jake wants Anae gone.Originally posted by Viking View PostI can agree with you that Anae leaving was a poor decision but it was Jake who was purportedly the catalyst, no? Talk about being careful what you ask for, if so!
Bronco chooses Doman over Anae.
Doman and Bronco both claim NFL potential, GOAT for Heaps.
Expected 2 - 2 start.
Heaps benched.
Something doesn't add up.

That's funny, Jay. You're making me laugh.Originally posted by jay santos View PostOh yeah, I forgot about how that destroyed his confidence. I guess we'll never know how good he is, because there's no way he comes back from that. Even after a transfer and a redshirt year.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

If Heaps sucks in Kansas it will have nothing to do with BYU, it will just mean he sucks. Too bad the Heaps "haters" or those who just think he flat out sucks like Viking/Jay etc won't admit that Doman/Bronco screwed the pooch if Heaps excels in Kansas under an OC that wasn't a complete mess like Doman was early 2011 with his failed pro-style/Stanford/Wisconsin-esque attack and subsequent complete scrapping of that offense. They already have built-in excuses in case that happens to still give Heaps zero credit.Originally posted by jay santos View PostOh yeah, I forgot about how that destroyed his confidence. Here's to Heaps absolutely killing it at Kansas

The continued bashing from all corners is A-ok though? I couldn't care less about Heaps as a person, my emotional attachment to the situation is that I feel like the chance at BYU football greatness in the near term died a quick horrific death this year and it is pretty hard to come to terms with that. On the flipside Nelson and Ogletree represent every thing I dislike about the way Bronco runs the football program and why the program seems to have a distinct ceiling it can't get past.Originally posted by woot View PostAt this point it's just uncomfortable watching Hsaru continue to fellate Heaps. If you could go ahead and get a room, preferably in Kansas, that'd be great. Thanks.
