That has nothing at all to do with it. Local sports, with the exception of Huskies Basketball, are nothing short of horrendous. All of the teams are very, very bad.Originally posted by creekster View PostYour concern for young master Heaps is quite touching. Ute fans are nothing if not altruistic.
I simply wanted ONE local team to return to glory. Is that too much to ask?

It IS when you try to convert a running back who can throw into a solid pocket QB (not to mention building a solid pocket-style team around him).
Locker is an absolute stud. He would have been stellar under Urban Meyer at Florida.
BYU has the same issue as Utah right now. They are relying on young, former players to be their position gurus. A better option would be to hire people with a substantial coaching resume.

So Sarkisian a former BYU QB who quickly moved up the coaching ranks can be a QB guru, but Doman a former BYU QB who quickly moved up the coaching ranks can't be a good QB coach? thanks NW Ute fan.
Doman is looking 3/3 so far in developing QBs and looks like he will be 3/3 in developing QBs who make and play in the NFL.
John Beck -> Max Hall -> Jake Heaps, most QB coaches would kill for that resume.

I am only relaying what I was told. It is possible he was just making it up and blowing smoke but I doubt it. The whole thing was too matter of fact.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostI just don't see anyone former BYU quarterback besides Doman having that type of insight to the offense let alone the audibles for certain plays. Audibles change from week to week based on the defense. I understand Detmer has an incredible knowledge of the game but I find it hard to believe that he knows the current offense well enough to give these assumptions. Especially the audibles and when Heaps should have checked out and what he should have checked out to.

I don't doubt that is what you were told and that you are sharing info with us. I would just question it because of the reasons I pointed out.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostI am only relaying what I was told. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...form.html?pg=1The freshman has been officially welcomed into the unique fraternity of quarterbacks at BYU. No, he hasn't rocked the world. But he's established himself in the sphere he was placed upon in Provo.
Fraternity? It's a BYU quarterback community that understands aspects of "the challenge" that nobody else can comprehend. It's a closed group; you can't apply for admittance or pay somebody at the door for an entry. You are only welcomed in as a member when invited, as was Heaps' coach, Brandon Doman, and Heaps' predecessor, Max Hall.
On Sunday, Heaps received a phone call from Washington Redskins quarterback John Beck, who has had his share of ups and downs playing in the Utah rivalry. It was a simple call. Beck told Heaps he had the support of fraternity. It was the third call from former BYU quarterbacks Heaps had taken the past seven days including phone calls from Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer and NFL Hall of Famer Steve Young.
Pretty cool.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

When Beck hit Harline it was a great moment for BYU fans to live vicariously through John Beck. It was such a "Shawshak Redemption" moment. John had travelled through a big pipe of shit and finally had his cleansing redemption. I was hoping somehow a respected member or two of the fraternity would reach out to him and say "today you became one of us."Originally posted by MarkGrace View Post

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

That really is a perfect analogy for Beck and his career culminating in that final play.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostWhen Beck hit Harline it was a great moment for BYU fans to live vicariously through John Beck. Something about "taking it in the ass from the sisters" might have made the analogy just a bit better.Originally posted by Surfah View PostThat really is a perfect analogy for Beck and his career culminating in that final play.

Good to know. I will discard your opinion on football going forward.

Kind of stunning to process this but -
Heaps had a better PER against Utah on Saturday than Hall had in any one of his three games against Utah. Because we ended up winning 2 of the 3 BYU fans largely forget that Max really did suck in every game against Utah. This is a guy who completed 62% of his passes on his career who only managed to complete 50% in 1 of 3 games - and in that one he threw 5 INTs.
The reality is - and heaven knows I love Mad Max - Max shat himself Wynn-style in all of his games against Utah. He threw one truly great pass last year.
He played hard and gritty and made runs and did the extra stuff to compensate but he was out of his element in all three games against Utah.
Heaps looked more poised on Saturday as a true frosh against Utah than Max did as a Senior.Ute-ī sunt fīmī differtī

All true, however, these stats were not achieved in a vacuum. Utah's secondary was not nearly as good in 2010 as they were in 2007-2009. Max faced a significantly better defense in each of his 3 games.Originally posted by oxcoug View PostKind of stunning to process this but -
