Someone needs to be the starter. Holt seems to have had the best camp so far.More notes from #BYU camp: Bronco said Austin Holt is emerging as the probable starting TE, due to his work ethic. "I value that."Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I said combined not each. I will just assume that you misread what I said.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostI love the expectations running rampant on here. KVN and JP are both going to get 20+ sacks this year! Ziggy is going to have 4+ sack games!
Do you know how many times a BYU player has had a 4+ sack game? 4.
6 Shay Muirbrook vs. Kansas St. (1997 Cotton Bowl)
4 Jason Buck vs. Oregon State 1986
4 Kyle Whittingham vs. San Diego St. 1981
4 Setema Gali vs. New Mexico 1999
Do you know how many BYU players have had 20 sacks... in their careers? 8. 17 is the most sacks any BYU player has ever had in a season... and we're going to have two guys eclipse that this year?
I know most of this isn't from you... but man, put your statistical expectations back in check.

The coach notes that backup QB Riley Nelson was "selected to be on a couple of our special teams, just because of who he is."
I hope that's a reference to his being a "gamer" and not because he's "special."

Actually... no it doesn't. Especially not defensively.Originally posted by TheAzzuri View PostYou're right of course, but in fairness, the back half of the schedule will give plenty of opportunities for monster games.
In a lot of cases, to rack up big number games, it has to be closely contested, with BYU holding a slim to manageable lead, but with the other team involved. In the second half of games, BYU shouldn't be in that position against Idaho, Idaho State, New Mexico State, etc.
Look at the Cotton Bowl. Muirbrook gets 6 sacks, but not because BYU blew them out. He was a beast, but they were in the game needing to pass until the very end. The Oregon State game was a game BYU lost. The other two were not as close, but they weren't total blow outs either like I would hope the last half of our schedule should be.
Once a game gets out of hand and both sides have their scrubs in (so you're turning a 4Q game into a 3Q game) both teams are focused more on getting experience, not getting anybody hurt and running out the clock. To MGs point, you won't see as many blitzes. You may see Ziggy getting reps at OLB against the run, where he wouldn't if the game were more tightly contested.

I did. But to some degree, the point still remains... even though our schedule sucks, we're not going to have record breaking performances across the board. BYU defenders haven't had many 10+ sack seasons across the board.Originally posted by BemidjiCoug View PostI said combined not each. I will just assume that you misread what I said.

It was pretty obvious that I didn't say that they would each get 20+ sacks. Maybe you had Freudian slip and you are actually predicting that.Originally posted by BemidjiCoug View PostIn regards to the LB situation. I think KVN and Pendleton will combine for 20 sacks this year. As long as they stay healthy, none of the WAC teams will have an answer for either of them.

Heaps said something about kickers being able to get away with stupid stuff (like Sorensen wearing one neon green and black shoe, one gold shoe) that the rest of the team would get sent to the locker room for. I wish they'd send RN to the locker room right about now. Or maybe to the equipment shed to find a proper-fitting jersey.Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostHe's got the look!

The "right now" qualifier could mean that he drops back down after Frazier returns. I'm just happy to see Ziggy's non-pass rushing performance improving enough that Bronco would say that.Originally posted by falafel View PostIf Ziggy is now in the two deep, is that saying something about Frazier? That's good news. Recently married? Did he bring his juco girlfriend up, or did he just "acclimate" to the BYU culture in record time?Bronco on Everett:"Really impressed with the maturity of DeQuan...recently married, great academic semester...just seems to be settling in."
More on DeQuan
Bronco on BC competition: "The guys are having a hard time shaking (Everett); he just keeps staying in there."More Bronco on Everett: "He'll have to make a few more plays to emerge as the player there, but he's one of three being considered (at BC).Ain't it like most people, I'm no different.
