  • I was at Wilt's 100-point game!

It is well documented that approximately 4,100 fans were in attendance to watch Wilt drop 100 on the Knicks in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Bombaata himself would later chuckle at the fact that tens of thousands of people would later claim to have been at the game.

Perhaps it is the pull of wanting to belong, to be a part of something big, that causes people to lie about silly things like that.

Today I am convinced that the Utah/TCU game has entered into "100 point game" territory. I have spoken to no fewer than 15 people yesterday and today that claim to have been at the game. This in and of itself is not unbelievable. In fact, to paraphrase Sean Connery in The Untouchables..."who would claim that who was not?"

The strange coincidence is that every single person I speak with happened to be sitting in the North End Zone and every also happened to be sitting within a few feet from the now-notorious topless woman. No cell phone pics have surfaced, no ticket stubs have been produced. But everyone was sitting right there in the North End Zone next to Topless Woman.

I am trying to think of other "100-point games" in my lifetime and a few come to mind that have caused me to raise my eyebrow a bit:

    1. Kobe drops 81 on the Raptors
    2. SC v Notre Dame - Bush Push
    3. SC v Texas - Vince Young's knee was down
    4. BYU beats #1 Miami
    5. Dodgers v A's - Gibson's Game 1 HR
    6. Lakers Celtics - McHale clotheslines Rambis
    7. Lakers Blazers - Game 7
    8. BYU v Notre Dame - Danny Ainge goes coast to coast

These are often geographical in nature. In other words, if you grew up on the East Coast, perhaps many people love to claim to have been at Doug Flutie's game winning hail mary or something of that nature.

In fact, if we were to include televised "100 point games," I would have to add to this specious list:

    1. Doug Flutie's Hail Mary
    2. Magic v Bird at the Huntsman Center
    3. Tyson v Buster Douglas

    Everyone's gotta belong, I suppose.

Woodstock is probably the biggest example of this phenomenon, though not in sports obviously, in the last 50 years.

Good call. I totally agree. I have met several folks that claim to have attended Woodstock. You ask for details and they give generics: "it was really wild!"

Of course, Woodstock attendees may deserve a pass since many of them could have been on hallucinogenic drugs at the time.

Have you heard from anyone that was sitting in the North End Zone near the Topless Woman?

Brigham Young's speech in Nauvoo where he transfigured into Joseph Smith. Nobody wrote about in personal journals at the time it happened and it didn't start popping up in the historical record until about three years later. Many of the people who claimed to have witnessed it were in fact not even in Nauvoo at the time (based on their own journals).

I would add a few from my lifetime

              80-The miracle bowl
74? usc-nd - Anthony Davis led comeback in the second half IIRC SC was down 24 at the half and won by at least 2 TDs - I actually watched part of that on TV ( I was wandering Fashion Place Mall and stopped in front of a TV for the 3rd qtr)
              '67 - ice bowl
'75 World Series Carlton Fisk's game six home run

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

That's one of my earliest football TV memories. Down 24-6 at halftime, USC outscored ND 49-0 in the 2nd half.

I just thought of another one:

The Jake Heaps emergence game. 4 years from now everyone is going to say that they were at the BYU vs UNLV game when Jake Heaps finally busted out and became a great qb.

I still have not attended any of these events mentioned. I was, however, witness to Jim Abbotts first start for the Angels!

I have seen topless women, but never at a football game! Was she in blackout mode?

                            I can. I was there.

Drunk woman in North EZ implores crowd to cheer. No response. Offers to take off clothing to get crowd to cheer. Tepid response. Strips down to bra and jeans, security escorts her out. On her way out, she takes off bra. Crowd cheers. Woman is taken to portal where she becomes belligerent, she is bloodied in a scuffle, and now she has to register on the sex offender database. As I said, I saw the whole thing, she was about 10 feet from me. It was crazy!

Actually, I wasn't really there. But now I am more inclined to attend. I honestly thought the whole "UU" thing was just a clever acronym.
