Why shouldn't it? Even presumably agenda-free entities like Princeton Review and Kaplan offer recommendations tailored to various demographics.

Well, for one thing I am not black, so what sorts of observations can I share with a black prospect about being black and going to school at BYU...other than that which he will already know? Namely, that there arent many black people in Utah?

My recommendation can't speak to the race issue because I dont know what it is like to be black in Utah or anywhere else. So I will stick to recommending BYU based on the fact that it is a solid program that is respected, the fans like to fill the stadium, we have some great games on the schedule, you are part of a fierce rivalry, etc. Also, BYU is not a good place to go if you place great emphasis on party atmosphere, greek system, etc.

I doubt I would recommend BYU at all regardless of race if the recruit had some really big time offers.
      Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
