I always thought you were more in the age range of myself, YOhio, Niku, Donut. I didn't realize that you were more the SU, 71, LAUte range.

I went to BYU, not BYA.

It is "new" compared to what we used to sing when I was a student there. The changes are not dramatic, but they are noticeable. Unfortunately, the fist roll is still alive and well.

There are few things more thrilling than an enthusiastic fist roll followed up with a "Go Cougars!"

BYU will fight like lions at TCU. The Horned Frogs will be taking poison at the gates of the stadium to avoid playing the Mighty Cougars of Brigham Young. Victory will be swift and is expected on Saturday.

There is no chance whatsoever that BYU beats TCU or Utah this year. The only real question is can they hold either offense under 500 yards and stay within 30 points of either. I doubt it.

Agree except for the Utah bit. On paper you are right and I have a corresponding expectation.

This is exactly what I sing. We were definitely taught "As we sing get set to spring" (not THAT, sickos).

Do we have the lyrics to the new version? It doesn't really matter because I won't ever sing them, but it would be nice to see them, I suppose.

I think that is true most most years, but not this one. I'll be the first to say I was wrong if that turns out not to be the case.

Still sing the older version. Here are the words as I learned them back in 1988 as a freshman:

This is how I sing it except for one small difference. I sing "As we unfold the victory story"

This may be some sort of mistranslation or error of man that creeped in sometime in the last 17 years since I have regularly attended games.

I'm old and crotchety enough that I don't intend to change.

See I'm thinking he wrote the original lyrics and someone else changed them. I'm pretty sure if you asked the higher ups at BYU they would say "what original lyrics? Go read them yourself, don't just accept what some guy on a message board quotes out of context."

Someone actually put up some useful and interesting information on CB, sorry Indy don't take the comment personally. When a team is favored by 30+ points, they only lose about 1.5% of the time. So there is a chance.

I think that is true most most years, but not this one. I'll be the first to say I was wrong if that turns out not to be the case.

Make no mistake: I predict it as a loss. But rivalries are different an this one in particular. I always think of 2001, in which our Swiss cheese defense put on a magnificent performance (albeit against Lance Rice) and our all-world offense sucked for 50 out of 60 minutes. Way counter to expectations.

Sadly, it is only seems to be "crazy and weird" like that when BYU is the clear favorite (see 2005, 2007, 2009). When Utah is the clear favorite, they always win (see 2003, 2004, 2008).

I know we're more talking recent history, but if you have the patience to look back to the mid-90s, you'll find that BYU has a few victories against the spread. Utah was a clear favorite in both 1998 and 2000, for example, and 1996 wasn't supposed to be a 20-point blowout.

But, the fact is BYU hasn't had a blowout win over Utah in almost 15 years. Utah has had two (going on three) of them since then.
