Where? I don't see an attack on Hill's character. I agree that Bronco attacked Teo's character. I don't know if the attack was warranted. Regarding Hill, I don't even see the attack. I see Mendenhall giving Hill props for what he has done and then pointing out that there were different philosophies that couldn't coincide.

LOL, a little maturity on my mission and I realized I would never have made it to the big stage.

However, the kid on my Babe Ruth team where both of us played in Calif. on an all Star team did make it to the bigs. He played for the Mets in a world series against the A's.

Although we both had about the same average in that tournament, he was a better player than I.

Just for fun, does anybody have the numbers of BYU's defensive YPC on the season and where it ranks?

I'm curious because:
-BYU's rushing defense (total YPG) is worst in the country, right?
-Their opponents have known this, so they continue to run the ball.
-In 3 of BYU's games (not against AFA and FSU), I don't remember many big running plays.
-I think some of it is probably also due to opposing offenses having the ball so much and running more plays, as opposed to a lot of big gains

I would be willing to bet BYU has the most rushing attempts against in the country.

Washington- 4.1 (31 for 128 yards)
Air Force- 6.3 (65 for 409 yards)
Florida State- 6.2 (44 for 278 yards, 120 came on 2 plays)
Nevada - 4.5 (53 for 239 yards)
USU- 4.1 (59 for 242 yards)

I see the LDS kids that Utah has on the DL. I don't know if they are better talent or just coached up, but they sure do look good to me. I guess it is grades or behavior off the field that these kids end up at Utah instead of BYU.

Some of them actually play as freshman. We have had some that play as Fr. too, Dulan, Manu and Fuga to name a few. Why aren't the supposed really good Fr. DLineman we have seeing much action. That kid from Texas was supposed to be an animal. He isn't LDS, so I wouldn't red shirt him. We won't be here 5 years let alone 4.

There is no question that BYU got its ass kicked in DL recruiting by Utah. Saying that, I really still believe that the DL has a core of steady players it just needs somebody who is really good. While it has been neglected and mismanaged, the nature of the beast with the recruiting base still provides a glut of decent players. The failure to land, maintain and develop a stud or two is what is hurting.

Rowley was the first really highly recruited DL BYU landed in a few years. Fuga and Manu are real solid but would be so much better if there was a real beast who could get pressure on the qb off the edge.

I think they would be better if we blitzed a little more. Your inside lineman would not be able to double team Fuga or Manu. I think both of them would be dominant if they had more opportunities to go one on one.

Well, you have to have C to have YAC, and I don't know if there is a big enough sample size to have meaningful data.

Answer me this. I am actually open to get some good thoughts on the subject. Do you think with BYU's emphasis on other things besides football for these kids. Missions, marriage and academics are three that come to mind that other schools don't deal with ahead of FB.

In addition to that, you have a coach that talks about FB on an overall basis not being that important and kids are judged on their community service, academics, etc. besides their FB ability. Do you think it is tougher for kids at BYU to focus on football. To really get excited to go out and play the game.

I know I was a baseball nut before I left on my mission. I actually had a Chicago and Cinn. scout talk to me during my Fr. year at USU. When I got off my mission USU had dropped the program and I didn't care. My son could have played at UVSC after his mission and after a few practices quit. He said it just isn't worth his time as there are more important things going on.

I just wonder how hard it is to get these kids that passionate.

I thought BYU played with passion in 2006 and 2007, but there has been a bit of a cloud over things since then. I was actually hoping it would go away a bit this year due to the lower expectations, but this year turned into an abortion delivered live.

I think the lack of passion we have witnessed the past few years was the result of heavy expectations. 2008 and 2009 were failures to much of BYU's fanbase because BYU did not make a BCS bowl. I have read comments from reasonable posters here that that level is the only one that could cause them to care a great deal. That is part of my issue with independence, I think the chance to play for a conference championship is worth something. Now BYU will only have a BCS bowl to play for and where does BYU go after that first loss? BYU lost its innocence in Fort Worth and has had a cloud of unreasonable expectations and very fickle fanbase following it since. The passion was rediscovered for a short term in 2010 but was lost once the debacle against FSU occurred. I think the burden of expectations is a big part of it and it has not been as much fun since BYU kicked the living bejebus out of UCLA and expectations went through the roof. Look back to how much fun 2007 was, BYU has not touched that since.
