Watching the other games this Saturday, it became apparent that Heaps isn't throwing the ball much different than any of the other college QBs who are putting up excellent passer ratings, it's just that most teams have guys who make plays - they make tough catches and they turn short throws into big plays and TDs.
This is certainly true. Heaps' rating would be 10-20 points higher if his receivers caught an average number of balls, and another 20 or so higher if any of them had any agility. That still doesn't equate to a great rating, but it would be good enough to win most of our games. Exhibit A is once again Denard Robinson, who is #3 in QB rating last I checked at 180.0, and yet he rarely throws downfield. He just throws bubble screens to some pretty athletic receivers and lets them do most of the work.

You know what's awesome? Today I was thinking of the best balls Heaps has thrown all year...and none of them were catches.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I don't know Indy, seems like our receivers drop an inordinant number of passes.
        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

            That's depressing.

So statistically looks like we probably beat UNM, UNLV, and have a 50/50 shot at beating CSU -- 2.5 wins.

That's assuming our PED doesn't improve at all from now until the end of the season.

The great thing about being so statistically low is the vast room for improvement

That wasn't meant as a projection as much as it was a benchmark.

True -- we can hope for regression to the mean.

As good a thread as any...

From today's presser. Nothing of real consequence but Bronco again uses the term humble when referring to Jake's progress. He should be "as a little child" by seasons end.

                    Could you address Jake's development?

"I think he's coming along really well. It's an amazing thing to see his growth and development. The wins don't show it. But every snap he takes he's becoming seasoned and he's becoming increasingly humble (emphasis added) and more eager to learn and more willing to try to do what he can to help our team.

Jay, can I get an interpretation of this quote? I thinking something along the lines of "he sucks so bad he's finally willing to listen to what the coaches have to say."

                        Three elements.

                        1. What you say
                        2. He doesn't feel entitled that he should play wide open west coast 50 pass attempts a game anymore and whine when he doesn't get to.
                        3. He's going to stop saying dumb crap in the media (re: 29 point spread)

I thought that was an interesting comment. I think it was clear that a kid with Heaps background would struggle to be humble and teachable. That seems to be true.
