Van Noy is a pass rushing olb. There are linebackers like Patrick Willis and then there are guys like Aldon Smith. They are both linebackers technically but perform entirely different functions. This discussion about Van Noy and his low number of tackles just shows how clueless someone is.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

If LiveCoug has his own stormy cloud emoticon we need to add a wet blanket one for Indy.

So you agree he is a situational LB in the NFL; therefore we are in agreement.

I get a wet blanket icon for saying that Van Noy is an NFL player?

Lol! You got to look at more than just tackles to measure the impact Van Noy has had on the defense. CMBF is right and Van Noy almost gave the D another dimension just be being such a credible threat to disrupt the passing game.

I think all of the attention that Ziggy is getting will benefit KVN quite a bit. He's going to get a lot of looks he likely wouldn't have otherwise and he's going to impress folks with his play and production.

Thanks KVN. You're one of my all-time favorites.

And four that should have been at BYU.

No he is an everydown LBer who has one very good strength, pressuring the QB and blowing up running plays in the backfield.

Saying Steve Nash(in his prime) is a pass first PG doesn't mean he is a situational PG who isn't a good scorer.

Lawrence Taylor, DeMarcus Ware, Clay Matthews and Aldon Smith are situational players that win defensive MVPs. You don't know what the hell you're talking about.

Van Noy plays a position that's at a premium and not a lot of guys have the athleticism combined with decent size to pull it off. No one cares if he's racking up tackles in run support because that's not the most important thing in the position he plays.

There are are a lot of guys that can play MLB and rack up a ton of tackles in run support. There are a lot fewer guys that can blow up offensive tackles and get after the QB on a consistent basis. The Giants have won two Super Bowls in recent years in large part because they can rush the QB better than most teams. They run a 4-3 and their LBs -- who are there for run support -- basically suck.

So what round SHOULD Van Noy go in the draft?

                              2nd or 3rd

                              • Aldon Smith, LB, has 57 combined tackles (NFL leader has 130), tied for 124th in the league. But he leads the league with 19.5 sacks.

Tied with him in combined tackles is Von Miller, who has 16.5 sacks.

Half of the top 10 in sacks in the NFL are listed as LB's, and their total combined tackle totals are: 57, 56, 44, 52, and 51.

Aldon Smith is 6th on his team in total tackles.

Von Miller is 4th on his team in total tackles.

Cameron Wake is 8th on his team in total tackles.

DeMarcus Ware is 5th on his team in total tackles.

Justin Houston is 3rd on his team in total tackles.

Are any of them considered "part-time" players who can't go every down?

Kyle Van Noy is tied for 11th in the nation with 11.5 sacks (only 2.0 behind the leader). And he is 13th in tackles for loss. So what if he's 7th on the team in total tackles? CMBF is absolutely right. His role is much like the NFL pass rushing LB's, and that's what his role will be in the NFL. He's not going to be limited or downgraded because doesn't have more tackles.
If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.
