I hope you were in a box suite and not a box suit. That would have been uncomfortable.

As for 71, I think he must be mistaking me for barbaragordon. I get that a lot.

I do like this rumor, however: "BYU will play Ohio State home-home-neutral (Dallas, TX)"

PBW will like the fact that BYU might be playing his corn kids too.
I'm a little puzzled by BYU-Ohio St in Cowboy Stadium. But Jerry's already scheduled Alabama-Michigan in 2012. Will be interesting to see the attendance numbers. I think a lot of non-affliated locals will show up for Alabama-Michigan but I'm not sure about Ohio St.-BYU. I think BYU hits an attendance celing at 20-25K for Cowboy Stadium. Not sure Buckeyes will travel to the same extent as Sooners given the increased distance.

At least BYU-Nebraska is rumored to be in Denver. I think that game will sell out as Nebraska has taken over Folsom Field in Boulder in the past. I would expect attendance numbers and percentages similar to BYU-OU in Cowboy Stadium. Not sure that the same number of Husker fans would travel to Dallas and that's my concern for Buckeye fans with OSU-BYU.

I think people tend to forget the alumni size of tOSU. And the number of tOSU fans that currently reside in Texas. Aside from those who travel and those who live in Texas. I see no problem in filling the stadium...

            • You guys are bananas. As a conference, nobody travels like the B10. The B10 Rose Bowl contingency always invades SoCal for New Years. Buckeyes will pack the house in Texas, as well.

                • I think if word spreads throughout Ohio that you could water ski and golf in the same day before the game in Dallas tickets would sell.

Perhaps you're right. But the majority of tSOU fan base is in the midwest. And I might be dismissing the Texas tSOU fan base; however, I'm quite sure that BYU has a much larger fan base in DFW. Have no empirical data, just my own anecdotal experience. During my work experience over 20+ years in DFW, I've met many educated professionals and I continue to be surprised at how many are BYU alumns. I've met a few tOSU and Big Ten alumns but not very many. I'm confident that there's even more Nebraska fans in DFW than tOSU fans and Nebraska has a smaller alumni base.

What tOSU does have going for them is that their Texas alumni are probably much more willing to purchase tickets and attend than their BYU counterparts. And Buckeye fans probably travel better than Cougar fans. I just don't think tOSU will be able to deliver like OU and LSU because of the distance factor.

Perhaps there is a hoard of tOSU fans in Texas and surrounding area that I'm not aware of that will now get a chance to see the Buckeyes play since the midwest is too far distant. It's just contrary to my own experience.

Perhaps Big Ten fans can be fooled...once. Dallas is not Pasadena and after one trip, Big Ten fans will figure it out. Let's see...Dallas has golf and BBQ...and...did we mention the golf and BBQ? Oh yeah...we have BBQ AND Mexican food (TexMex).

There's also the difference between going to Dallas in Sept/Oct. when the midwest climate is pleasent and Texas can still be hot and going to Pasadena over the Holidays where the weather is great and the midwest is snow covered.

I'm sorry but I think I will go with the tradition and facts of traveling with your 20 years of interaction within DFW.. tOSU has a major alumni base in Az, and out west.. I think you should look beyond just DFW to also include the other sections of Texas....

When I came back from the BYU vs OU game. Many were jealous of the road trip I had taken to DFW and to see that game in Dallas Stadium.. The spin machine of tOSU will ensure they turn out...

                          • The official attendance for BYU vs. OU was 75k. I didn't go to the game, how many BYU fans were there -- 15k, 20k?

I think there was little faith that BYU was going to beat OU and lot of people probably just chose not to make the trip. It had been awhile since BYU had beaten a big time opponent. So I can't help but wonder if BYU beating OU would prompt a few more tickets to be sold to BYU folks.

Also, Dallas may not be Pasadena, but Jerry's World is a destination and people want to catch a game in that place. How many teams travel better than Ohio State -- Nebraska maybe?

So, would it really be a surprise if 25k tickets were sold to BYU fans and 50k tickets to Ohio State?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I would be surprised but only midly. I think 25K for BYU is on the high end. Perhaps more would travel to see tOSU than OU but I doubt it. Maybe if BYU had a high preseason ranking.

Maybe tOSU sells 50K but that's quite a challenge. Perhaps the novelty of playing in Cowboy Stadium might do it. The 2004 Alamo Bowl (Ohio St.-Oklahoma St.) had very good attendance so it's certainly possible. I'm very familar with how Nebraska travels and I don't think they can put 50K fans in the seats at Cowboy Stadium for a BYU game (unless it's a bowl game). But they could for a Nebraska-Oklahoma game (and I think tOSU could do that against the Sooners as well).

I'm not trying to discount how Buckeye fans travel-they represent better than most or almost all. But there is a distance factor to consider. Put the tOSU-BYU game at Soldier Field in Chicago and Buckeye fans will easily put 50K+ in the stadium. I'm just not sure they can do it in Dallas but I could be underestimating them.

Does the novelty of seeing BYU play in Texas wear off? BYU will play in Austin and Jerry World this year. Especially if they are a 7 win team, I could see them not selling 25k tickets. There were only 40k fans at the TCU game last year, I find it hard to believe 25k of those were BYU fans.
